I have to say that without Depp POTC1 would have been utter shite. It was his slap stick approach to Sparrow (that only he can do well) that made the film so much fun. If anyone should have been re-cast it's Bloom.

I was amazed at how great the first one was and this one looks to be even better. The screenwriters need serious recognition for being able to take an amusement park ride and turn it into one of the highest grossing films (and potentially film trilogies) of all time! The new trailer looks awesome. Can't wait for next Summer!

Not really, they obviously took those creatures and have slotted them into their world. Its a great use of material.

I imagine they stand alone pretty well (its not complex or anything ). I just recommend seeing the first on general principle that its good.
