Planning to reformat soon, do I need to take any precautions before reinstalling?

Considering the registry is going to be nuked, and all record of the game being on this computer along with it. If I just reinstall Steam and log back in with my user name will it recognize and validate the data accordingly when I reinstall?

Yes, steam will recognize all of the games you bought. But if you dont back up the copies of the games you will have to download them again.

I forgot to mention I have the retail version. Does that change things if I have to register the CD Key for a second time?

Passwords and user names

Am considering the same for different reasons. Back-up all passwords and user names, MyDocs, .pst files, etc.. And cancel any open subscriptions before you forget what they are and where they are.
