PLAY HL2 with a 56k modem ????

I installed HL2 on my system and with my poor internet connection i updated STEAM ,DECRYPTED GAME FILES....but now, when i try to play HL2 the STEAM window is downloading something so long that it warn me that it tooks 1528 minutes ! ! !
And after a long time connection,it decreases only to 1312 !!

What the hell i must do to play this game ?

I'm very disappointed about that protection !
I hope that STEAM will not have future in games protections !

I have a modem, and the file verification and updates only took about 30 mins

Have you tried playing HL2 with out being on the net, I have noticed people having problems trying to play HL while on the net but don't say if they can play off line.

I only used a 56k modem and it took 1.5 hours to do everything, been playing off line since. If you have set up your Steam account you may have problems selling the game because of the serial number (check through the threads as this has been talked about). Apart from that you will miss out on a great game

Hi,

I have a 56k modem (connect at 50kbps) and the intial setup downlaods only took 30 mins as well. If you are really struggling I would find a friend with a fast connection (i.e: broadband/adsl) and download the one off updates from there)...but honestly..you shoudlnt need to do this. Keep on trying!..

That amount of minutes makes it sound like it's downloading another full copy of HL2.

Exit Steam, remove or delete a file called clientregistry.blob, then restart steam and see if that helps.

Hopefully, that will make it scan your harddrive and recognize that there is already a copy there.

Thanks to all..now i'm with my computer inthe house of a friend of mine that have an 640 ADSL connection,and with this the counter is at 78 minutes..

I have no words about that !!

i'm on dialup and behind a proxy ... so i had no choice but to take my machine to work to install HL2. I made sure everything was "good to go" for offline, then i took the box home. I wouldn't even attempt to play this thing "online".

it is an awesome game ... but steam is total BS.

hang in there. somehow get the game to work. it's worth it.
but, yeah .. we shouldn't have to go thru all this headache to play a game we PAID for.

Seems it is a N.A.S.A. program !!

FOR SURE i'll not buy the next game based on STEAM !!

Sorry Valve...but i don't want to spend more money and time for a thing that is made for fun...
