On October 19th Xbox LIVE Gold subscribers will have the chance to take on Valve in a friendly game. To get the chance to play in the developer showdown, gamers will need an Xbox LIVE Gold Membership. Subscribers need only sign into Xbox LIVE and add Valve developers Gamertags to their friends list, and invite or be invited by team members to play a round.

I've already played against valve - just watch where they're playing on friends and join... There were 12 of us plebs vs 12 valve guys and we lost so badly round after round ;)

Yep. I play with some of the Left 4 Dead crew too.

Am I seeing the first real benefit of playing the game on the 360?

I'm still confused as to why developers/console manufacturers haven't set up systems where PC can play with console... :(

Not like it really matters...but it'd be pretty cool to play ppl on xbox--assuming the maps were the same, etc...

OK, the more I think about this the worse it sounds, haha...

Because PC gamers will have to play gimped versions of the game in order to even the playing field for consolers. If you think games are dumbed down already because of consoles, imagine how shitty they would be once we need to play with them. Lowest common denominator sucks.

No, it's up to Microsoft. Microsoft obviously didn't give the go ahead for d/l new content, etc. They could'nt do jack with the PS3 though.

Actually, I imagine that TF2 would be one of the best games for evening the playing field, especially with the lack of aiming that classes like Engie and Spy take, where it's more about strategy.

I'm betting the issue would be less about playing fields and more about having to pay a subscription fee to play with X-Box players.

Look at Universe at War: it's gonna have cross-platform multiplayer compatibility, but will require an X-Box live membership(even on the PC) to get access to even basic RTS features(Automatching, friends lists, whatnot). I'm betting Valve didn't care for putting up with Microsoft's BS with pushing their Live service and left the option out.

But you gotta love the irony in TF2 PC being on a network that's 100% free, with Microsoft's equivalent(Windows Live) requiring a subscription and having TF2 be released on the X-Box anyways.

Well, that may not be ironic exactly, but I do feel sorry for the console gamers having to subscribe to the clunky and rather stripped down online service to even play multiplayer.

If only they would do this for the PC.

I wish they would have a Valve Dedicated server with reserved slots for Valve employees. Then we can make it happen on the PC a lot more frequent.

I doubt they want to tell everyone to ask their personal Steam accounts to be friends.

I back this statement. I know I don't want to pay xbl fees to play online when I can play for free on steam.

I'll kick their asses. :smoking:

I can already get my score from 0 to 200 in about a half hour in a 12 on 12 game. :D

(I play on the "CAN'T STOP GAMING!" server. Best one out there. 2fort atw. :P)

Oh god, don`t tell me Valve is gonna do what Activision and IW are doing with CoD. I actually like TF2 and Ep2

What, develop stuff for consoles so they can extend the market with their own brand of original (Valve) games, branching out to more and more players that will - eventually - give Valve that next step to becoming a so much more recognized company, as well as introducing a whole load of fantastic games to break the mould of mediocre games* out there?

Because god forbid they upset the PC fanboys. Oh, no no no.

* This actual applies to both platforms, PC and console, but they're already on PC so that's a null point.
