hello! Does anyone know the whereabouts of the not-showing player model in 3rd person view mode? Since the model itself exists,I thought it could be using a transparent texture... Too bad I'm 300 miles away from my pc and cannot fulfill my curiosity without help :P

Are you sure it exists? I'm pretty sure Valve only modeled the arms (after all, the player is supposed to truly feel like Gordon Freeman.

if your talking about hl2 sp then there is no 3rd person model and i think if u use the 3rd person camera code it wouldnt show anything but u can use a custom model and theres a gorden model on hl2 files . net or com or whateva of gorden freeman if u wana make a 3rd person hl2 mod or sumit.

I am pretty sure that the HL Model Viewer shows a player-model thumbnail, but I can't remember if you can actually see it once you double click on it. But,since you can't see it when in third person view (floating gun effect),in game, chance may be that A) only its hitboxes exist or B) the model is there but it's completely transparent (I could fix this and use a texture on it). I'll check this sunday.

In the past I tried to briefly rename the Gordon DM model to player.mdl and use it in the place of this "invisible" one, with bad effects: the model had no animation,I had not explored this further but this could mean that either its animations' names need to changed (easy, good) or that they're simply not compatible (bad)

Lol, so new and thought full.

The models you see in first person are V models, models only YOU can see. The P models are the player models etc etc, and why have a model that no body would see in singelplayer? But you still see the V model thats why you see your arms.

People who dont know, load up cs an buy a Ak-47, it looks good. Then watch another player holding an ak-47 in 3rd person....its another less quality model.

Raviol: err...we are talking about the playing character model aka Gordon Freeman/Yourself,not about player viewmodels and worldmodels ^^'

Thirdperson doesn't really work in SP.

You may be able to get it to work but the animations aren't called in the code. So your player model doesn't move.

Venmoch: the intel I gathered so far about the player model says the 3rd person view spawns a stickman placeholder with no animations, and I would need to change the precache and referral code to call for a different model and its animations. Do you think it would work if we tried to import directly the code used in HL2DM to show the players?

There's a 'cheat' for CS:Source called thirdperson I think :x
I was looking through the commands and found it, but when I entered it, you can't use this cheat on multiplayer games or something.
I think 3rd person is awesome though, The Specialists was/is so fun because of 3rd person.

Orion: Substance needs 3rd person view because we're preparing VR Missions, like in Metal Gear. It would be pratically *impossible* to sneak around in first person view mode, the "look behind the corner" feature is needed. An alternative could be leaning left/right,Thief-like,but still not as practical. In the end, however,we would have an effect like Max Payne or Tomb Raider, not the fixed camera of MGS

I really think 3rd person is awesome :)
Even better is the option to be 3rd person or 1st person, that leaning idea could be really cool!
