Is there a way to play an xbox, ps2, or gamecube on a pc monitor. i have a radeon 7800GTX and a samsung syncmaster 915N. I don't want to buy an hdtv for the next gen consoles and I wonder if this would be an alternative.

Ahaha, you mean NVIDIA 7800GTX, radeon is made by ATI , also it depends on the type of plug that goes into your pc and such, such as VGA or S-cable input. Check the backs.

Opps, yeah nvidia. I get mixed up sometimes because i used to have a 9700pro. Anyways, the Nvidia takes S-cable. It is the white plug ends, not the blue ones. The card I got came with a few accessories, including a input cable with the yellow white and red plugs.

It really depends on what hardware you have for converting the signal from the console into something that the monitor can take. Not really clued up when it comes to this sort of thing, but here are a few google search results that might come be useful:

Connecting an Xbox to a PC Monitor
Note - this method is only for playing Xbox on a PC Monitor, but will give you the best picture quality.

It is possible to connect the Xbox to a VGA display with very very good results. The key to obtaining good results is to avoid the basic line doubler devices available from places like Lik Sang. They take the basic 480i signal from the Xbox and convert it from interlace to progressive scan. This works but looks very poor.

To get truly great results, you need to tap a quality Xbox signal. By taking the native 480p, 720p, or 1080i signal from the Xbox and displaying it directly on the VGA device, you get exceptional results. This is not line doubling the 480i signal. You must use the direct output from the Xbox or transcode component to VGA.

There are two devices on the market that do this both very well and inexpensively. The X2VGA is a device that connects directly to the Xbox and uses the native output to provide a VGA signal. The VDIGI VD-Z3 is a component to VGA transcoder. This provides equally great results but provides the flexibility to use any device that can provide a component video signal (not just Xbox). This is vastly different than those cheap line doublers mentioned earlier that accept composite and S-video inputs from any source. These devices do not transcode and will not provide the same level of results.

I personally use the VD-Z3 and absolutely love it. You can't really go wrong with either product.

Alot of people seem to be able to get it workign with a tv tuner card with a composite-in connection. Just google'd it

Yeah, a TV-Tuner should do the job. If the the XBox has outputs to RCA (it most likely does) then you can connect the video output (yellow) to the RCA input on the TV card. To get sound, you'll ever need an expensive TV-Tuner/DV card that can input sound from RCA inputs (white/red) or just buy a cheap RCA to 9mm converter.

That's how'd I'd do it in the UK anyway. Dunno if it's the same in the US or elsewhere.
