After getting the Dell 2405 monitor I've noticed that it doesn't have a stretch mode like my old monitor did. My old monitor had a setting where you can stretch a resolution to fit your monitor by width, width and height, or not at all. This might have to do with the dvi input I'm using and not having any settings with it.

Anyways, in the catalyst 6.6 update, ATI added a setting in the control center for dvi output if you want to stretch the image or keep it the same. Ive noticed that this doesn't work too well (I haven't extensively tested it either) and that it thinks 1600x1200 is the same as 1980x1200. I've tried different resolution in games a little and so far it didn't stretch F.E.A.R. with 1280x1024 but that's small on my monitor.

Is there any way I can get around this resolution/aspect ratio problem without having stretched games? I've even resorted to playing some older games in windowed format! I mean seriously...most games are fine and they can handle widescreen, but I want F.E.A.R., Prey, and some older sim games to look normal. I would be a happy boy if we figured all this out. :D

Well some games when I do that appear to be stretchy.. and I just installed the classic omicron game and its one of those games where you have to keep clicking the arrow to "scroll" though the resolution options and I've noticed that like 5 "common" ones are the only ones that ati allows it to not be stretch. Maybe this is a new feature that they're working on (would be nice). I really don't want to install any more 3rd party tools. I already have atitraytools. Maybe I'll just suffer a little bit more till they start supporting more resolutions. Yay for source games in widescreen! :D

the games will only change resolution if you can change the aspect ratio and ati wont make drivers to force a widescreen resolution it depends on your card

Sorry about the delay, I haven't checked this post in awhile. Thanks ASUS I'll check that forum out. Hungryduck I'm using DVI and yes it does matter. So far the two monitors I have used have "stretch options" when using VGA. However, my current monitor greys out most of the options (including that one) when using DVI.
