Playing HL2 in offline mode?

For some reason nothing internet related (Other than IE and MSN, oddly) is working. Since I have nothing else to do, I figured I'd replay HL2 singleplayer - I opened Steam in offline mode, and clicked HL2 in the games list, and it gave me an error: "This operation cannot be completed when Steam is in offline mode."

I thought HL2 could be played offline once it was authenticated?

Is Steam definitely in Offline mode? The Steam icon needs to be red, otherwise it will try to connect.

Exit Steam, restart it, select Start in Offline mode and post in the correct forum next time!

I did a quick scan of the list for a board for tech support, I guess I missed this one.

Anyway, Steam is in offline mode, and I tried restarting it. No luck.

same here, but it is working now, some times it works sometimes not...
realy dont know whay is steam refusing to go to offline?..
