Playing this game without having the DVD in the drive?

Right, I bought the game, not knowing it would arrive in DVD format.
I only have CDROM in my gaming PC.
So I put the DVD in my 2nd PC, and installed the thing through network - which went fine, until I had to validate the CD key. It wanted my DVD in my pc.
So I made a image of the DVD, using Nero, emulating it with Daemon-Tools on my gaming PC.

I was now able to validate CD key.
But when I started the game first time, that bastard, Steam, wouldn't let me "Disk emulation detected bla bla".
Grrrrrr!!!

So, is there ANY way I can play this game without having a DVD drive in my PC?

Using a NO CD/DVD crack for which I have not looked for but can't post anyway.

I have 2 DVD drives on my PC so I just leave HL2 in my main one and use the DVD-RW to watch any DVDs I want to on my PC.

I think valve are only going to do this for the first couple of months, as an anti piracy thing. So only the person with the CD can play on a certain account.

They'll (hopefully) remove it fairly soon.

There is a crack on a certain site that fools Steam into thinking that you've got the Steam download of HL2 instead of the retail DVD game. I needed this because HL2 wouldn't start without it (bless Securom...)
I'll PM the link cause I don't think the mods appreciate it.

Oh, I forgot to mention; I want to play HL2M online.
Meaning, if the NO-CD/DVD crack messes with online capabilities, I'm screwed.

I'd best get a DVD drive, ASAP.
I don't want to have to buy another copy of HL2, just because I used this crack.

I doubt they would ban for use of a NO CD/DVD crack if you have a valid unique CD Key because cracks are not illegal as such. However it may depends on where you are located, as some parts of the world you can burn copys of anything you own on to disk for backup and some places you cant.

You are circumventing the copy protection scheme. It is illegal period.

beware the no-dvd crack - even if valve don't decide to delete the acounts some day it could quite easily have spyware that sends your steam account details to someone who can then change the password and steal your account.
Either way you are risking your account and therefore your copy of the game :S

Making backups does not bypass the copy protection. In the example above when he copied it he had no issues when he tried to use it with a virtual drive program the COPY PROTECTION stopped him.

Developers do not sell CD Crack software. And just because someone sells something doesn't mean it's legal.

Making copies of CDs does require you to bypass the CD protection at some stage.

as long as you know a little about computers moving a DVD drive from one computer to another should not be any problem even if it is your parents computer
