They should always quote people accurately.

We've decided that if our consoles are ever going to be as good as we say they're going to be, you'll need a really good imagination to have one hence I'd be amazed if the PlayStation 4 has a physical disc drive.

Don't get too far ahead of yourselves, Sony.

I think Sony's forgoten that not everyone has broadband or can't get it guess that would mean no backwards Compatibility

Too late for that. They've already gotten so far up their own ass they can see out of the teeth.

Well said

Lol @ Samon's post and Penguin you make a good point about backwards compatibility.
Many people would not be able to get games because they might not have broadband or a credit/debit card.

They're probably aiming for that as an "extra" like with Steam you can still buy boxed games (only the good ones :P) and buy em online.
It would work well for Asian markets like South Korea or Japan = lots of broadband if i remember correctly

Hmm, don't know about that. Its like eBooks: there's just something special about actually holding the book (game) and having it on your shelf that these other ideas can't duplicate.

rolf. Damn sony is really screwing up every time they open their mouth.

Really if you can afford a ps 4 you can afford a broadband connection.

So i'm guessing the cost will be around $700 - 800?

How about we wait for the PS3 to be out for at least 2 years first before worrying about PS4 kthx.

Talking about the successor to a console which you've yet to release is stupidity comparable to that of Sega.

There is nothing stupid about his comment, all the major companies are allready working on the console to replace their nextgen, his comment seeing how things are going is not that far fetched or dumb at all. Many have predicted the BR/HD-DVD will be the last format used, and it isn't far fetched that if you can afford a ps4 you will have broadband.
This is just turning in to the usual orgy of sony bashing, and it's sad because it degrades the forum as a whole.

No it doesn't, because Sony are doing it to themselves.

LOL stop being so self-righteous. It's common sense. If you're trying to build up public enthusiasm for the PS3, then it is simply stupidity to get people talking about something else which doesn't exist yet, and which will probably by definition be technologically superior to the PS3.

As for the eradication of physical disc drives, that's a fantasy. The idea of everyone having some kind of fibre-optic blitz-connection in 5 years might somehow seem realistic if you're sat in some cabled-up metropolis in North America, but there are still a hell of a lot of places in the UK (and around the world) where it's currently impossible to get broadband, and where the tele-comms infrastructure sucks to hell even if you can. Even if the idea of all these places getting broadband access by the time the 'PS4' comes out is realistic (arguable), the idea of everyone making the switch by then, and of everyone having a fantastic enough connection to make physical drives unattractive, is Cloud Cuckoo.

Stupid statement all round from mr whatsisname-sonymeister.

Bill Gates has said almost exactly the same thing, so its not like this is just a loony-tunes comment from out of the blue. Its a mention in passing and a brief glimpse of what may be in the future. He's not saying this is for sure by any means. Its just a throw-away comment...let's leave it at that and not make a huge production out of it.

I do not think it's self-righteous, the kinds of comments against sony are not warranted at all, and if they are then why don't Nintendo and MS recieve the same barrage. Fact is they do not invite and infact drive away honest reasonable conversation and are definatly killing the forum.

As far as it beeing stupid, I don't know. Your statement does make sense so it might be stupid, but on the other hand it gets people talking about the ps, about sony and I believe it has more positieve effect then negatieve, besides sony can make a statement like that and see the public reaction and judge weather or not it's doing the right thing.

And the predictions that the last format will be the BR/HD-DVD doesn't mean that they will activly eradicate the physical disc, it's just by the time we would need a replacement, which is somewhere in the year 2015, most people will have gotten a fast enough broadband connection that it's economically unfeasible to make a new format.

Now the ps4 is likely coming in 2012 so it might be a little early but who knows, judging by sony's price strategy the ps4 will cost 2000,- and if you can pay that for a console you can afford a highspeed connection, besides steam is doing fairly well today.

and if you can pay that for a console you can afford a highspeed connection
Highspeed connections are as low as 56k Connections. The problem is they are not everywhere. That is the problem, NOT price.

Ok sry then I misunderstood. But seeing the current proliferation of the internet and it's underlying infrastructure it's not unthinkable that it would make economicly more sense not to include a drive. I mean the BR is the main thing pushing the price up of the ps3.

And in the year it comes out, most likely only really odd places won't have broadband..

BroadBand will be probbly be avaible wireless anyway.

All I thought when I read that:

Nine-hundred and ninety-nine US Dollars
Nine-hundred and ninety-nine US Dollars
Nine-hundred and ninety-nine US Dollars
Nine-hundred and ninety-nine US Dollars
Nine-hundred and ninety-nine US Dollars

Lol, oh COME on people, if you don't have broadband and a debit card by the time the PS4 is out, you may as well hang yourself anyways.

Well one thing they could do would be offer a simple add-on external drive. Your right it would be more cost efficent.

However lets also not forget Sony wants their Playstation to be a media center. Basically able to play everything. And knowing Sony...they would be glad to throw some more shit in to pump up the cost. I'm also sure Sony would love buying games online. Why? Cuz they love DRM! They would probably make that game limited to that Ps3 rather than have an account system.

Broadband didn't even come into my area until about seven months ago. Although, by that time (2010), most people will have access to broadband.

By 2010 there will probably be something beyond broadband out, anyway.

Yes and then Broadband will just be getting here and the entire world will have moved onto something else and I will be going insane!

Actually i'll be out of school and probably moving into a different bigger city! W00t!!

We got DSL in like 1998 here.. It's amazing that some of your areas are still just getting it.. I haven't been on dial up since I can remember using the internet really..

It strange my friend lives 2 streets away from me and he can't get DSL while i can so he is stuck with dial up.
