I'm so sorry, I'll delete the whole thread if I can just get help. As the hardware forum goer's know, I've been having computer problems, from my AGP acceleration not working to not being able to reformat. Turned out I had 442 virus's. (that explains programs not working). But now, I reformatted again, windows 2000 pro, and I just want to know, in what order should I do things? Example: windows updates, video card/driver, soundcard/driver, etc etc.
There must be a certain way cuz whenever i install my video card first, I don't have any agp allegedlly and can't play any games at all. So in what order should i update everything?

Right. Here's your answer:

Motherboard drivers. 3D card drivers (any other drivers) Windows Update. Latest versions of all other drivers.

Alot of viruses can remain on your comp after a reformating, I wouldn't be surprised if half of those viruses are still on your comp. With that many viruses you can either use anti-virus software and hope for the best or get a whole new harddrive (I would just get a new one).

As for the order it really doesn't matter since windows comes with basic drivers for hardware, but you should probably go with video drivers first, then windows update, then soundcard drivers.

download latest service pack.
install OS while DISCONNECTED from network.
install service pack.
download all updates.
install drivers.
make mirror image of hard drive.
install anti-virus.
install programs.

And of course, sacrafice a virgin goat... Definately get the virus scanner to double check to make sure that the viruses are gone.

You're referring to viruses in the boot sector I guess... No need to buy a new HDD. In this case, you would simply get a zero fill tool, usually available from your HDD manufacturer's website. Zero fill does what it sounds like; it writes a zero to every single bit on the platters. There's no getting around that.

or perhaps hes referring to someone with two harddrives, formats C:\ and leaves D:\ complete with viruses.
i imagine he isnt that stupid, but then again, 442 viruses.

the virus i had infects all .exe files and branches to .dll and .scr files from there. Theres really nothing i couldve done if i had found it in the beginning anyway. Parite A and Parite B if ur interested, look them up.

it was probably 442 infected files, or files that were part of various viruses, 442 unique viruses would have taken skill to get. You'd probably have to go out of your way to infect your system with that many.

concentrate on having a stable system before you install any gimmicky stuff. that means do your windows and updating stuff first. make your system rock solid before you start making it unstable with all these programs. the zero fill tool sounds like a good idea too. and don't 'recycle' any system files from your previous install. if you're going to back up some important stuff, keep it to a minimum. good luck.

I keep on getting the blue screen of death, where if I open a program/ or programs a certain amount of times it reboots my computer. Is this a virus, or has Bill Gates done it again. I've located a virus on my computer, but I can't delete it (Because my dads the administrator, and I can't inform him because he is always out). Has anybody else got a file name on their computer called C:\Z.exe, if so, does anybody have any information of how to get rid of it. Norton Anti-virus can't get rid of it, and Firwall did **** all to prevent it from getting on my computer.

Google is your friend. Here is the first result for the query virus z.exe: http://www.experts-exchange.com/Miscellaneous/Q_20840305.html

:cheese:

also alot of those could be from the virus being stuck in system restore.
but doing a zero write doent always help. my brother got a virus in his master boot record and had to reformat that also
