PLEASE HELP!! Half Life 2 wont start up.

I have installed the game but when the game autoruns and i click on 'play half life 2' nothing happens. I have a high spec PC so requirements cannot be the issue. Maybe it clashes with another program? I dont have a clue.

Any help will be much appreciated.

Something has happened, but doesnt look good

Steam started doing something and then i receieved this message:

''Unable to connect to steam network. 'Offline mode' is unavailable because there is no steam login information stored on this computer.

You will not be able to use steam until you can connect to the steam network again. To check the status of the steam network please visit http://steampowered.co/status.''​

I did this and it said it was online.

Any1 know whats goin on?

Could it be because i'm trying to run the game from a university network and they have ports blocked??? If so is there any solution?

Well if you have unlocked your game files, and have 100% of updates, and the game says 'ready to play' then you can put steam in offline mode and play, without getting caught up in all the ports being blocked. If you can't unlock the files or install the updates because of the university blocks on steam, then what you will have to do, is disconnect your pc, and move it to a different location e.g. back home or a mates house with a net connection, and registry the game there, and unlock the files, and install updates. Then set it in offline mode and take it back and you can play the single player games offline. e.g Halflife 2 single player, and Counter Strike Source (with bots only of course). Because of the block on steam you won't be able to play HL2DM or CS:S with online players obviously.

Its long winded if thats your problem, but the online registration is in the name of stopping piracy sadly. Good luck,
