my mom is going wacko telling me to delete my MP3s, she seems to think the government is going to scan my hard drive and come after me, i only upload/download like 3 songs per week. here is the letter she left for me, its pretty hilarious because she knows nothing about computers (hehe, "delete all your hardware")

what should i do? i know you can only get caught if the RIAA downloads a file form you, then they get your ip and they call your ISP to find out your address and so forth, but i am an asshole and i dont let anyone download off me. yikes my mom is crazy.

I'm gonna tell the government about you...

hahahahahahahahahahahaha...

thats great.

maybe she got a call from your isp warning that the RIAA was trying to get your info, or a call from somewhere else...who knows....i dont think she would just suddenly go insane....well maybe, who knows.

Delete the hardware first, Or send it to me and ill get rid of it for you. :)

Why did she write you a letter rather then talk to you...?

she wrote me a letter because she is at work, she left the letter taped to my monitor.

An American organisation would have a hard time prosecuting us Brits:)...that is of course until they claimed we were terrorists. Then we would be handed over no questions asked :(

use Peer Guardian. blocks bad IP ranges and other RIAA agents.
Screw the RIAA.

Don't copy that floppy. lol that was hilarious! And yet sooooo very wrong

your mom is overreacting, the RIAA won't spend the money to prosecute you unless you're serving massive amounts of mp3s to others. if you don't share files yourself, you're gonna be safe

WARNING: The word F**K is contained in this link.

read THIS.

lol you said it first!!!!

who actually does the prosecuting is it the record companys or the government?

If the RIAA charges you , as long as youre young make it a PR nightmare. That 12 year old could have raised holy hell and gotten SO MUCH sympathy.

PLEASE good sir , more unneeded political commentary!!! ZING.

Burn the songs on CD, then when and IF! the RIAA contacts you... Agree to their request and delete all the music on your computer, this way your CD is yours forever.

All I have to say is....your screwed!!!

HAHAHAHAHA!!!! ;)

All that thing is BS. They are trying to scare people and it's working. Do you personnally know anyone who got prosecuted? I don't know what those dumbasses are going to come up with next, but that's hilarious. MP3 gives cancer? Each time you download a MP3, Metallica will kill a little child?

They may suck for charging 12yr olds with crimes , and they may make ENTIRELY too much money for what they do. But in this matter they are in fact right. Maybe not in actions but in legality they are completely justified.

Yeah, I thought you meant send them to jail, lol.

A criminal record is not a good thing to have, computer knoledge is.

The RIAA ain't in it for the Companies, they're in it just for money.
However, if there was another company like the RIAA but not in it for the money, then I'd wouldn't mind.

What are you talking about?

RIAA is protecting the rights of people who make music, what do you mean money?

Meh, I don't give a damn about the RIAA, as long as they keep music alive. Nickelback, David Usher etc...
I doubt anyone would wanna download Beethoven;)

He can do many things, but spite is probably the most devious and will make you chuckle while locked in your room.
Why not download songs by her favourite bands/singers and give her them on a nice cd-r for christmas.
How about a title "Mum's Illegal Song Collection"
