:hmph: i have steam and half life 2 on my moms computer now i finaly got internet in my room so i try to instal it. then i try to play half life 2 in my room when i try to play it though it says its alredy registered to my moms computer. So i go and uninstall steam off of my moms computer and it still wont work. then i went to the website and it says that uninstalling steam will not disable cd keys. SO WHAT DO I DO NOW is there a number i can call for supprot at valve or somthing can any one help me?? im going insaine :rolling:

So you played it on your mums computer yes? Well when you registered the game on steam you made a steam account didn't you? It's an email and password. You must log into that same account on steam on your computer in your room. You are trying to register the CD-Key again, but you can't as its already registered to the steam account you use in on your mums computer. All you need to do is log into that account, using your email and password and you will be fine.

ok so i have to log into the steam on my computer and do what???? sry im not very computer intelligent can you please tell me in step by step instrutions.....and O by the way i uninstalled the steam and halflife on my mums computer. i dont know if that will affect anything but i thought i should tell you!

k i got on to the account and under my games it has half life and half life 2 but it says pre load complete next to it....im not sure what that means but when i click on it it sends me to the store where it wants me to buy it again? what dose all this mean

You need to start steam like normal, and on the log-in screen you must put in the details (email and password) that you used on your mums computer, because you registered your games under that account. When you log into that account you will have your games ready to download and play. You don't need the CD-Key anymore, once its been used on an account. I hope you can remember your log in details for steam (from the steam you used on your mums computer).

edit: That means you have made a new account on steam and downloaded the games. But on that account you haven't got the CD-keys registered and you can't do that because they are already registered (to the steam account on your mums computer). You must remember your log in details and log into that account where the games will already be unlocked.

Thats fine. Heres a step by step.

Install steam from www.steampowered.com
When it asks you to log in, do so with the details you created on your mothers PC
Once steam is installed, logged in and loaded, open the "my games" section
You should see "Half life 2" greyed out
Right click on it.
Click install
Wait

yea i got that much. i have the short cut to steam on my desktop. i click on it and it takes me to log in screen i put in my username and password. then it takes me to my account. it has halflife ..halflife 2 and counter strick all of which have right next to them pre load complete. when i click them it takes me to a screen where i can buy them again. i dont want to buy again y cant i just play it. i dont understand?

ok i clicked on the link and it never asked me to log in whats up with that

Listen to us! YOU ARE LOGGING IN WITH THE WRONG ACCOUNT! Do you undestand!? On your mothers computer, you always logged in with a different account, on that account you had Half-life and Half-life 2 registered on it. You need to put these details (email and password into the steam log-in screen) on your computer. Think of the log-in system like an email account or msn.

You make [email protected] and log in on your mums computer, it has all your contacts on there. You can log in with [email protected] on your computer too and you have all your contacts there as well. If you make [email protected] and log in you don't have your contacts on there, because its a new account, you see what i mean? You need to log into the same account.

k i got to log in now im on the steam acount that was on the last computer and i right clicked like you said zombie and it my options dont include installing it just says purchas and some other stuff

I am on the same acount as soon as i click the short cut on the desktop it takes me to the account on my mums computer i have never made a new acount i just unistalled halflife 2 and steam and counterstrick off my moms computer and put it on mine.

sry if im making you mad im just not good with this type of thing as u may have took notice to

but i never made a new account all i did was uninstall off moms and reinstall on mine i had steam on moms and i have that account on mine but it wants me to buy the games again

If you are logged in with the correct account, it will not give you the option of purchasing. Therefore you do not have the correct account details in there.

Zombie!? Dear god you are making my day very long :(

Did you have Half-life and Half-life 2 registered on the account on your mums computer? If you did when you log into the same account in your room, it will show all the games in your 'my games' list for you to download and play. If it's asking you to buy the game...

1. You never had the game on that account in the first place.
2. You have logged into the wrong account, PLEASE triple check its the same old account and you haven't made a new one.

The fact you uninstalled the game from your mums computer doesn't matter, only if steam is logged in is the matter, you can't have steam logged in two places at once. Please read the help posts clearly, as i cannot help you any further as i'm going now. Good luck and slow down and read things properly.
