Please help! Need CD Key that works!

Im confused, I got the game and now the Cd key wont work. Can someone help me out here? It says "Duplicate Cd Key"

I think the standard procedure is to send your box with the receipt to valve or something. Anyway this isn't the place for that, try this:

Did you lend out the game to someone? If so, threaten to break their neck if they don't give you their account.

Oh, and where did you get the game? Did you buy it?

This happened to me once. I can't remember how I fixed it now - but it invovled sending a angry email to someone, along with photos of my box and CD key. I got a reply some time later with a new key. Safe!

Go back to the store with your receipt and game, and get a new copy.
Simple as that.

This happened when i tried to reguster half-life 1 on my steam account, sent an e-mail and pixtures of my box and cd key...but no reply
