Please help with a crashing problem

Whenever I come to an auto save point in Half-life 2 it crashes to the desktop. It used to do it every time I manual saved as well but I upgraded my 512MB RAM to 1.49G and the problem seems to be fixed in that aspect, but it still crashes at each auto save. I looked through FAQs of various HL2 help boards, including Steam Support, but I didn't see anything really relating to this particular problem. Just wondering what I should do or if anyone else has had this problem and what you did to fix it.

I'll be honest, I don't know much about hardware, but this is what my specs are according to the sticker on my laptop: Intel Core Solo Processor T1350 (1.86GHz, 2MB L2 cache, 533MHz FSB)

Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950

I upgraded to 1.49G RAM from 512MB

Thanks!

Here's how to disable autosave:

Disabling Autosave

If you are tired of the way Half Life 2 automatically saves your game every time you turn a corner or meet (or defeat) a new character, you can use two tweaks to disable autosaving in the game. Firstly, refer to the sv_autosave command in the Advanced Tweaking section, as using this will disable the autosaving which occurs at the start of new levels. You'll have to insert sv_autosave 0 in the autoexec.cfg file to disable it.

Secondly, go to your \Program Files\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\[username]\half-life 2\hl2\ directory, and find the following files:

autosave01.sav

autosave01.tga

autosave.sav

autosave.tga

Right-click on each file, select Properties and tick the 'Read Only' box to make each unable to be written to. This prevents Half Life 2 from actually performing a save onto these autosave files, and in the process you reduce all the saving pauses within levels as you pass certain autosave points.

If you wish you can choose to disable one form of autosaving and not the other, and if you do disable both then make very sure that you manually save often, either by using the Save option, your Quicksave key, or the save console command.

I think that solved the auto save problem so I thank you for that, but now it's back to crashing whenever I manual save. Man this sucks =P

oh nos! maybe try a complete reinstall? is your game fully updated? oh wait... you cant play with out all updates right? err... ok then if you have to I'd say full reinstall.. ( man why does this game seem to have so many problem? I never have so many problems with other games!!! my half life 2 is ****ed up right now too silly graphics issues )
