My computer, every time I try to install a big game, says I dont ahve enough Virtual memory of RAM. Because of this, I love my diet coke more than my PC. It will install, but It doesnt perform as well. I was jsut about to try the ship.. and I got this:

Recommended: /////////// Your System:
CPU: 1.8 Ghz / //////////// 2.7 Ghz
RAM: 512 MB / /////////// 384 MB
CARD: DirectX 9 Capable / /////////// RADEON 9250

Can anyone tell me how to increase my Virtual memory/RAM?
Or is it hopeless and I should get a new pc..

go to: START> settings>Control Panel>System>Advanced>Settings

Unfortunately, I dont know how to change it on that page. a lil more specific after settings?

START> settings>Control Panel>System>Advanced>Performance >Settings>Advanced>change Virtual Memory

I think I got it right now

Erm..

Okay, Now how EXACTLY do I change the virtual memory, I changed some of the numbers to higher but.. Its not working..

Okay, can anyone tell me how to erase lots of stuff off my hard drive so I can start almost all over again?

Sorry, but your PC is crap. It seems you have 512MB of phisical Ram. Windows needs half of that just to function, leaving you with around 256MB. But you don't even have THAT, because you seen to have an on-board graphics card, set at 128MB, which is eating up 128MB of your 512MB RAM. Sooo... 512MB - 128MB = 384MB RAM, which is what your games (and system) keep telling you you have. Take away the 256MB or so that Windows needs, and you have around 128MB left to do everything else with, including play your games. Not to mention the fact that on-board graphics is SH*T for anything, especially games.

I bet it came with a 40GB hard-drive, too. It's basically a internet / Word document / movie playing machine, and nothing more.

But.. It's not an onboard graphics card... I bought it and had it put in.. :|

but its a shitty card that takes lot ur ram,my keyboard s unhooked excuse te shitty grammar

LOL @ 512MB.

Anyway, yeah. Today, you need, at the minimum, one GB of RAM.

Holy crap - it's worse than I thought then. I thought your PC was just showing 384MB Ram because you had an on-board card using the rest. But you don't. You just have 384MB of physical Ram. How does your PC even boot? Who the hell made your PC?

Several points.

*Do you know how much RAM you are supposed to have? If you bought it from a store check any paperwork they gave you. 384MB of RAM is an uncommon amount (but not impossible).

*The strange thing is your CPU is 2.7 Ghz which is fairly modern and most modern PC come with at least 512-1024MB of RAM - how old is you PC?

*I think you are getting confused between Virtual Memory and RAM - changing the amount of Virtual Memory you have will not solve the problem (if you let me know how big your hard drive is i can recommend a setting for it though).

*The free trail for the ship is almost over but my PC didnt meet the CPU requirement and there was an option to install anyway - you might be able to do the same.

How does your PC even boot?
Over exaggeration FTW! I've had XP going on a 200Mhz 64MB RAM shitbox and it ran alright.

I am reviving this, and It can install, but yeah, it was over, I am just heart-broken because now, I need to play Supreme commander and Dawn of teh war: Dark Crusade, both which require 500-something minimum. Also, BF2 doesnt work(Surprising?), But Black and White, which I just found the CD key for, works well, with a bit of lag. Dawn of War 1 and Winter Assault both work fine, but lag a bit in my 8 player FFA's. SW: Empire at war is perfectly fine. Yay for 2d/3d thingies!

first of all.....computers aren't magically broken because they have less than 512mb of ram. I have older computers that have 128megs of ram and run xp fine....albeit a little slow.

Secondly....his video card (Ati Radeon 9250) has its own onboard memory and will NOT use up system memory.

It sounds like to me you have a lot of backround processes running, and that you are filling up the amount of virutal memory that you have alloted. When you run a game like hl2, windows takes most of the backround processes that are running and places them in a virtual memory "page file" on your harddrive so it frees up more physical memory for hl2 to use. Thus, if your page file is too small to hold all the backround processes moved out of the physical memory, then you will most likely get the error mentioned above. Look for a tutorial on google somewhere on how to "Increase windows xp virtual memory."

I hope this helps.

Thanks.
