I recently (today) re-partitioned my hard-drive because of certain problems; problems with programs not working including Steam.

Well, anyway, I just went to install Half-Life 2 again. When I go to install Half-Life 2/CS:S, an error message comes up that says something like "hl2.cab could not be read, it might be a reading error, it's corrupt."

I took it out of the CD-Rom drive and saw that there was a couple drips of... I dunno... junk. So I cleaned it off with no liquid with a soft cloth until they poofed away, put it back into the drive and still get the same error. There are no visable scratches.

Is there anything I can do, or am I screwed?

Make sure you are installing both HL2 and CSS otherwise you will get that error.

Both programs are selected when I try to install.

Just download the steam program from the web.
Then enter your steam username/pass, the games you are entitled to should come up on the steam menu, just click on them and you download the game files from steam. Once they are down you can right click on the icon to make a back up.

An extreme suggestion but if your CD is screwed it's the only option you have.

Hope this solves your problem.

Alright!

Thanks for the suggestion; I didn't know you could do that. I'm downloading now.

Yup, that seemed to work.

It's now at 80 minutes to go after a half-an-hour.

Thanks again... you made my day!
