pleeease help

ok so i just installed hl2 and everything is working out, except, when i enter a new section of the game or episode, and it loads and does auto save, it freezes up and shuts down the program, and whenever i try to manually save the same thing happens, but the thing is the game still auto saves when it crashes, but i have to wait 10 minutes for my computer to recover and reload the game... anyone know whats going on?

Do you have the latest version of DirectX (9.0c June Update) and the latest graphic and sound drivers for your computer?
