i have just put together my second build

amd 64 3200+
1 gb (512x2) corsair xms
7800gt

and it was working fine until i rebooted one time and right as it was going to boot up windows it would flash this blue screen with a bunch of instructions on it. Now i couldnt read it because it flashed really fast. I thought it was a memory error so i kept trying to reposition the ram.
Then i decided to try windows repair and it stoped on a blue screen that i can read and it says

a problem has been detected and windows has shut down to prevent damage

REGISTRY_ERROR

the it goes on to tell me to reinstall any hardware i just added...

then at the bottom it says

Technical information:
* STOP: 0x00000051 (0x00000003, 0x000000000, 0xE11E7000)

Please can someone help i think this may be a ram problem

Sounds like a memory error.
Make sure your RAM is compatable with your mobo.

If it's not a RAM problem, just try reinstalling Windows.

Can you remember what you were doing before that last restart when it started to act up? Have you tried booting up in safemode yet?

ram is compatible i was using my comp pretty much that whole day. And i just exited bf2 and i had to restart and that problem came. Since it wont let me reformat without that problem coming up, could i format the drive on a different computer and then load windows again on my comp?

Not a good idea. The hardware would be different, so you would prob end up with even more errors.

Anyway, if the windows install won't work properly, there is something wrong with a peice of your hardware somewhere. The best thing you can do is try the hardware in another PC, 1 piece at a time, and see if you get similar probs on that PC. I would suggest you start with the RAM.

If you want to format your disc in dos, then a win98 boot disc is the best way to do it imo. Boot to the disc, delete all the partitions and make a new one the the full size of the disc using FDISK. Once you have done that, format the disc, restart and then put in your winxp cd and start the installation. If you want a more detailed 'walkthrough' then just say and I will post it in more detail.

Ummm... when you boot the Windows XP CD you can delete, create and format partitions..

Did you format your previous windows install before putting the drive on this machine? Yeah, you should be able to just boot to the Windows XP CD and delete partition, create new partition/format/install right there.
