Point of existance for Battlefield 2 has been released. I am downloading the torrent right now at 600 KB/s, should be playing soon. Anyone else got their hands on it yet? It looks awesome:

I played that mod for BF:V... was ace.

I don't see why it's on BF2 though, it technically is modern combat-ish.

Well BF2 kind of sucks compared to this, at least thats what I hear. Installing game right now, will know how it is myself in a few.

On the other hand, POE2 offers:
-Guns that are as powerful and effective as they should be
-Fresh maps, weapons and vehicles
-The best balance of a first release I have seen, rock paper scissors definitely in effect.
-AWESOME infantry combat on the infantry maps 'Fallen' and 'Orel'
-Far less Retards
-Better squad and teamplay because it is not ranked
-Pick up kits
-Cool details around the map (I found a weed crop in the corner of a map yesterday, with laughing sounds coming from it :D)

There are other things, but put simply POE2 is for many what BF2 should have offered. It is well worth the download imo and personally I would have parted money knowing how good this mod would be.

I was kind of disappointed in the game. If everybody takes off with all the vehicles, then you're left huffing it, and that's a good 2 minutes run to the next flag. :(

The weapons seem way too accurate, and granted, it does suck shooting people and them living through 12 bullets..I hate dying to one bullet from some guy I never saw...

The Jets made me cry...they were stupid.

I have more gripes, but I still had a little fun with the game.

Played about an hour's worth on a couple maps. My verdict? Meh.

The weapons are fun to shoot, sound great too. Vehicles own like nothing else, and they're freaking everywhere. On the map "First Snow" their must have been 10 tanks at a flag blasting away at each other. Speaking of that, as soon as you take one shell from a tank you might as well hop out, your armor is already in the red.

To me, PoE shines with infantry, just ashame that the vehicles are everywhere and dominate. "Fallen" is by far the best map. Set in a dense foreset, it's one of the most amazing experiences you'll ever have if you're on a full 64 man server. At least 10 people or more will have scores over 100 by the end of the round, and the rest aren't far behind with massive scores. It's just run around, shoot never-ending streams of bad guys, then cap flags. But it's fun as hell. No vehicles AT ALL, so it's all mano a mano. As a result, Support and Medic are basically the only classes worth shit on Fallen. Sniper sometimes, but the heavy brush and constant enemy movement (except for other snipers) make sniping really kind of pointless. You'll literally be reviving fallen comrades every 15 seconds, and it seems that every time you throw an ammo bag down it gets used, resulting in massive resupply points.

I played a couple other maps, but besides Fallen being the most enjoyable, it was the best performing for me. I don't know if it's just my rig, but on pretty much every other map I lagged like hell. The choppiness and stuttering was almost unbearable at times. After about 10 mins it would go down quite a bit, but I just assumed it was because of the insanely large maps and the amount of shit in them.

Other than that, it's a pretty solid mod with a few great features. For example, the Sniper and Spec-ops have binoculars and a radio. You can whip out the binocs, view your selected target (i.e. 3 tanks raping a base), click on them, then after about 2 seconds a message in red pops up "Coordinates Aquired, Use radio within 10 seconds to send" and you just pull the radio out, left-click, and the coordinates of the tanks are sent to someone on the artillery. Just like in BF1942, except there you just had to click with the binocs. I also loled at what the kill message is when you TK. "Your name" [Commits Fratricide] "Friendly"

I'm probably going to give it some more play, mainly on Fallen. It's a great mod that presents a lot to play around with it, just that like any game/mod it has it's faults.

btw, AA completely pwns. :D

I got a few hours in last night, I don't have much time but let me get a few things in.

The guns are awesome. My biggest complaint with BF2 was the weak guns, I could unload a whole clip (single shot) into a guy and he could still turn around, shoot me a couple timesm and I'd be dead. I know, you are thinking to yourself that I'm just a newb. But the fact is there is something extremely "unsmooth" about those damn guns in BF2. In PoE if you aren't looking around every corner and someone comes up behind you its over, you are dead.

The maps on this mod were my biggest complaint. I do love the vegitation and the tall grass, without UAV this makes the game very interesting and pretty to look at. Fallen is porbably my favorite map. However, all the maps look identical to me and seem rushed. I am a sucker for city maps and its a shame everything was done in open, forest areas. I wish they would have done at minimum one city map.

The vehicles I do like. Tanks can no longer control the battlefield, nor can planes, not can choppers. However, I did get a few minutes in with the chopper on that winter map and it really wasn't as weak as some claim it is. The weapons on these vehicles are awesome.

And finally, I love how they returned to the 1942 style of artillery. I simply wish more people knew how to actually use it.

I admit, I bought into the hype a little too much before I actually played it which in the end I came out a little disappointed. However, this game beats the hell out of every "expension pack" EA releases so you really can't complain when you get that many new weapons, maps, and vehicles for free. I will probably continue to alternate between this and original BF2. Hopefully in future releases they will improve the maps, that would make this mod really shine.

And the commander is actually ...worthless. he can't do anything but spot, drop supplies...and spot. \=

Yeah, but I like the fact there is no UAV and no "point and click artillery". Makes the game a little more challenging.

yeah, a commander jumped on when I was playing Fallen with about 9 others, and it ruined the map, even with just spamming the 'spotted' function. WE were able to know where everyone was- kinda took the fun out of it.

Well the Artillery in BF2 isn't all that bad, if you're aware of your situation and the obvious shots of Artillery firing, you should instinctively know to GTFO of that area. It's only annoying when you have 1 flag left and the enemy commander is shelling that area, but if you're down to 1 flag (mid-late game) then your team deserve it.

This will probubly keep me amused until PRMM .4 comes out with 13 classes for each side and British infantry and light vehicles

I think it's alright. Certainly an impressive first release just over a year after BF2's release. I don't see why we don't see some high-quality source mods like this out there yet...

I don't know what map it was, probably Fallen by the sounds of things - all wooded, crash site in the center, cabin in the north etc, lots of cover and grass. This map is very well made in terms of quality. It really looks and feels like a forest and I didn't get any slowdown. As for layout and gameplay of this map I have to say...meh. It's kinda fun when you get some big infantry battles on a front with medics running along the lines reviving, healing etc and snipers in the back spotting and sniping... Other than that it turns into whack-a-mole syndrome that you get in BF2 when you play 64 player maps with like 32 players or less.

The other maps I've played have horrible layouts and suffer from slowdowns for god knows why and happen to be terribly unbalanced. One map, one side starts with ONE point with an apc, tank and a 2-3 jeeps when the other team has the rest of the map and lots of tanks and apcs. The layout is so bad that it takes like 2 solid minutes to get to the next point on foot which is probably what you'll be doing for lack of vehicles and the fact that the other team has all the main roads blocked off with their forces.

Grade A release (in terms of bugs - none seen - and the feel is good for the guns - aiming on some vehicles is way too loose and weird though)
Grade C+ gameplay mainly due to maps and some vehicles.
