for instance, in bf1942 you could say base at C5. because the map had a grid. the points in bf2 do have names, i know this, but you only see the name when its been captured, you can't bring the names up on your map or reference them.(that i know of)

I know you can just make a command in the map GUI, but there are times when say you are a squadmember, and you want to tell your squad leader about enemy activity in a certain point. i usually have to say, that base 2 from the top right middle by the big building near the river! i wish they would have kept the letter and numbering grid system.

also does anyone know how to turn off the voice chatter. the text is all I need anyway, and I don't even know what the chinese or MEC are saying.

I usually use the same names as they come up as text when it says they're being captured.

I leave my voice things on in their respective languages because it can be helpful if you hear an enemy's language nearby (saying "First Aid, here!" or something like that) you can hunt down players easier.

Hmm? Do you mean customizing maps, or giving orders? If you want to give orders use the "T" button rose and point to give squadmates options or request something. If you're a commander, use the caps lock menu and place orders on the map by right clicking. It shows on your team members' mini-maps.

well i mean as squad/leader or commander you can right click a point and say defend there, go there. and then a big line will appear in the map for them, thus eliminating the need to know what its actually called. but this only works for certain situations

yeah but have you memorized them all? the only one ive memorized is the hotel on gulf of oman because it actually looks like a hotel. and when you want to memorize more, you have to actually capture the point so it will tell you. there has to be an easier way. I dont see why EA took away the graph. argh.

I'm not saying disable the voices altogether. im asking how to disable the radio chatter. it just seems unecessary when I see the text and hear the voice chatter when the text would suffice

I uderstand all that stuff, but what does he mean by getting the bases to display names in the map GUI. How do you do that from the capslock menu?

EDIT: Oh, I see. It's just a hack job pretty much. I thought you meant like, there was a dedicated way to get units and bases to display names.

I don't have an troubles with this, I just use south, west, east, or north, or the common name of the base.

Same. Daqing Oil fields is really easy to memorize. I've got it "Gas station, US base, Two Cooling Tower Thingys, the middle, and some other stuff. It becomes second nature when you're ingame.

But I DO have a lot of trouble memorizing spots other than DO. I still can't figure out WTF is the hotel?

played any 64 player maps? the points are so bunched together, youd have to say east base 4th from right and a bit north. 16 player maps its not a problem, 32 and 64 can be.

I play only 32 player maps, never had a problem. For example, on Kubra Dam (what I am playing now...so boring) the points are The one north of bridge, the one south of bridge, the north west one, the one west of dam, the one east of dam, dam, and the airfield/south of dam.

I've been complaining about this since the demo. It is absolutely asinine that they didn't label the points somehow, either using letters, numbers, or a grid or something. How hard could that be? If they really want to promote coordinated teamplay this is about the easiest and most important thing they could patch.

What clans did in DC (and now in BF2) is you number them, top to bottom, left to right.

exactly.

foxtrot, using that method of numbering would work if everyone knew the scheme, but on pubs not everyone does. I don't know about you, but at times I need to coordinate with other squads and tell them whats happening in certain places and I need them to KNOW what im referring to. what if they dont know the names of the places that im referring to? what if they don't use the numbering scheme i do?

this is precisely why there should be a standard map grid/label system that everyone can reference on their map.
