As we know Aftermath is just over the horizon, we all know we want it. But how do u plan on getting it? I believe that i read it would be release though steam only, and that u will HAVE to ay by credit card only. This might be a disadvantage to some younger users/fans who have to get someone else to buy it for them, credit car acessibility also a problem.
But I have also heard rumours that It will be released for retail afterall. So you will hopefully be able to buy it at stores.

I personally would buy a copy on disc from a store over the counter, the good old fashioned way.

But anyway, which will be your prefered method of purchase?

Please take a moment to answer the Poll above. I thank you in advance for your input, i am sure the results will be of interest to most people. Also please have your say.

It will be relased through retail and Steam. It's not one or the other.

I personally will be getting it via Steam. I'll get to play it right at the time of release (assuming I get a new ****ing rig by the time it's out), I don't need to worry about losing a CD/key, it's efficient, and it doesn't put money into EA's pocket.

Yes hopefully it will be released by bot means, I am just bringing this up becasue i read a steam news update that Aftermath would be released only through steam.
I know that both methods are likely now, but i wanted to know other peoples preferance.

I dont mind paying alittle extra to get a Hard copy. and i am not that impatient that i need it the exact second its released.

It was confirmed by Valve a couple months ago that Aftermath will be relased in retail too.
I don't have a CC so I have no choice but to buy retail, so I'm glad they're coming out with a retail version.

STEAM

the only way to be sure I'll be playing at exactly 8am GMT (12AM Pacific)

Another reason im buying retail is because I collect them. Right from the first Half-life, Opp-Force, Blue Shift and Gunman Chronicals, i have them on Disc and in thier original boxes.

Together with HL2, Aftermath will add to the collection, i am sure they will be worth something someday.

Heck, I have already seen posts here from people that never even saw the original games on sale.

From one set of ****ers to another isnt it..... Vivendi to EA :E

steam again for me, embargo on all EA products till they fix bf2!

Maybe I'm old fashion but I like having a pretty little box, and a jew case to display amoung my collection. Its just not the same otherwise

While I understand that mentality to a degree, I don't see the point unless there's something cool along with it. Boxes are something I eventually throw away. Jewel cases, blah. So many companies are content with giving you your CD in a paper case along with a worthless card showing you keyboard controls. Manuals are even a major afterthought nowadays. Nobody really bothers with backstory, enemy descriptions, weapon descriptions, and all that neat jazz.

Now, when a game ships with that kind of big-ass Blizzard manual that dedicates at least 15 pages to the game world's history, then I'll buy retail because I find that interesting. I have a whole stack of manuals in a box somewhere because I can't bring myself to let them go. Otherwise, online distribution is preferred. It's the way forward as well.

I hope to get it in the box/cd, not only to actually have some sort of backup but also save downloading time cause I doubt its gonna be anything less than 500 mbs

Preloading...

Just leave it on while you're at school/work and it will be done by the time you get home.

I will buy it trough steam at first, so that I can play it asap
But later I will probably buy the box, just for the fun of it :)

There wasn't anything really that cool in the CD releases of Half-Life 2, which is pretty much why I went with Steam. In exchange, I got a crapton of goodies, games, and the ability to play Half-Life 2 15 minutes right after it got activated.

I think I'll go with Steam again.

i'd like to purchase via Steam but that option isn't viable for me.
retail is most likely the way i get Aftermath.

I got a cool shirt....its kinda cool...I guess. I was the only person at the Gamestop in my area to pre-order the Collectors Edition. Oh well, I'll pay $30 to have 1 DVD rather than 9 disc that I might lose, plus I think Half Life: Source only came with that (other than Steam options)

I don't have a way of paying for online purchases with a credit card yet, so it's retail for me.

I would like to have a box and cd's. Preloading is so gay. But I was un-impressed with the box set of halflife 2. No manual and no jewel cases? Just stupid paper ones? WTF!!! But if I was to buy through steam I would need a credit card and to download it all. Plus I don't trust buying stuff over the net. If I can't see exactly what I'm buying or who I'm buying it from I believe it is risky. There's always the posibillity something could screw up and I might get ripped off, so for me retail is the way to go. I really wish I bought the silver package though. Dod: Source and cs:cz and deleted scenes and ever other game for 60 bucks pretty awesome deal. Thats my only regret about going retail either than putting money in EA's pockets.

Definitley Steam. It's going to $12.95 and i'm sure EA will sell it for $30 in retail.

I'm getting DSL installed this week, so I could get it off Steam, but I think I'll get a good ol' retail version.

Retail

But if it's 15$ more expensive, sure I would go steam.

Retail, but only because my Uni connection is an unknown quantity and I don't want to bring down the wrath of the IT staff for stealing all their bandwidth or some-such. That said, I may not even be able to Authenticate the game... I've nothing against Steam really, just situation.

retail=EA gets paid

steam=VALVe gets paid..

Steam for every purchase to make sure VALVe gets my money and not EA!

i will buy it from the store because i want the box. heh.
