I USE 3ds Max 5.0

Hey guys just wondering is the tri count different from the poly count. and how do i keep the polys down while using editable mesh because the polys seem to get sucked up really fast compaired to editable poly. BTW why isnt editable poly the real poly count? Also is there a tri counter seperate from the poly counter.

a triangle is a three verices face(polygon). Editable Mesh counts 4 vertices polygons as 1 whereas in editable poly a polygon could have 5+ sides vertices so long as they are on the same plane. that is why when you convert form EP to EM you get pull and creases from MAX trying to fix the mesh itself(and usually failing horribly) this is why many people advocate modeling in trangles because you get a accurate re[resentation of what hte mesh will look like ingame. when doing poly counts EM gives a fairly accurate count though if you cout the faces you will get the PC ingame.

Some of the stuff Hiro said is true.

Editable Mesh: Even when you have n-sided polygons, it always lets you use/select/count triangles. If you had a 4 sided polygon in an editable mesh, you could edit it as though it were 4 sided, but if you used the Polygon Counter, it would count it as two 3-sided polygons.

Editable Poly: This would count however many polygons you have, not triangles. If you had a 4 sided polygon, then Polygon Counter would count it as one polygon. You have many more features in Editable Poly, but one feature you don't get is the ability to select individual faces inside a polygon.

As for a different polygon counter, you can press 7 and it would show the polygon count in the corner of the selected viewport. This counts the polygons the same way that the Polygon Counter does.

well i don't know if you cleared up aaa confusion. but you certainly helped me out. thanks
