Has anyone noticed that CS:Source has TERRIBLE hit detection and netcode problems? It is almost like the gun doesn't shoot bullets or something... That is my one and only complaint about the game, but that pretty much makes the game as it is a first person shooter... I really hope that this gets fixed. I understand it is a beta, but this is just one of my complaints about the beta.

No problems here.

I've noticed this on some guns and not on others. Most rifles seem to work well. But then I tried an auto shotty and shot a guy from 3 feet away 4 times in a row. Never hit him once.

One time of this wouldn't have concerned me, but I've seen similar things happen several times.

I've had trouble with this...I am 10 feet in front of someone and unloading my M4 into them and I only get 2 hits (check console).

I've noticed!!!

The gameplay seems alot looser than 1.6,I would guess the netcode needs some tweaking.Playing 1.6 I feel much more in control of my accuracy. It's not the new crosshair either that doesn't bother me.It's still only a week old BETA though.

I could use a CPU & Graphics card upgrade but I don't think that would completely address the loose feel of the weapons accuracy/netcode.

But hey it's beautiful!!! I can see once it's optimized/tightened up in the final release it's going to be such a sweet upgrade for CS.

one annoying thing is its hard to see where your shots are actually going so you cant adjust your aim accordingly, you just have to guess if your spray is going over their head ect.

Another thing is I think most people still have default updaterate of 20, which for broadband users on 1.6 meant you couldnt hit anyone using it. Dont know whether its the same with CS:S i sent an email to Gabe a few hours ago asking if rates and stuff have changed at all.

about the netcode....

Is it just me, or does the ping seem to be worse after Valve released the first update? Before the update, there were servers where I was getting a ping of 40 or less.....after the update I would get pings of ~ 80 in the same servers...

i get 40 and lower ping. only join east coast server. there needs to be more blood. I cant tell if i hit them or not. only time bloods shows is when i kill them :/

There are some screwy hitboxes. I made my own server the other day with my brother and was point blank shooting him in the shin with the mp5 to see the blood splatter - however none of the bullets registered when aiming directly at his shin - moving it over a little to the inside seemed to work, though.

Definitely some probs with the bullet reg, but I suspect it's mainly due to the jumpy netcode.

I've tried to adjust cl_cmdrate and cl_updaterate but had no real joy

In CS 1.6 my rates were something like 100 and 65

In CS:S my best rates seem to be 20 20??? but it's still not right, definitely an update problem with people not being where they're shown to be- Iv'e had some success shooting thin air where people have just been(!) but this I think is a hitbox problem....

Please if anyone actually knows what the rates for 256K now are please post them

For the people that don't think there is anything wrong with the netcode and bullets registration...there is. If you play regular cs long enough you know exactly how a gun should feel and when bullets should hit. I even find myself skipping across the screen sometimes in cs source when i have 19 ping and no spikes, it's quite odd. It feels like i'm playing with 250 ping when i have about 50. If they can get the netcode up and running to anything comparable to how cs 1.6 feels this will be the greatest game of all time...next to HL2

GAH I just got done playing some Source and I jsut got so pissed at how hard it is to actually hit someone with a quick 2 shot burst so I quit and am now back to Condition Zero... Source better be fixed man this is a huge problem..

Maybe you are to used to the hitbox bugs in 1.6 i find it super easy to kill stuff.

i never play 1.6, only condition zero... and whatever the hitboxes suck terrible in source tahts all i know for now... i mean they suck bad too... i would rather play bf1942..

lol. The guns definately feel different, but I already adjusted to this crap and have no problem killing people.

i dont see too much of a difference, except sometimes i cant hit someone far away with a rifle using two shot bursts. myabe i suck, but otherwise the shooting almost seems more responsive.

'Hitboxes are screwed' excuses are for losers :p

No, seriously I have no problems with the hitboxes and I think they really are accurate. I can't remember of any moment I shot someone without hitting him. And I also think the netcode is great, pick low ping servers and it never lags. The only thing that bothers me about the netcode is when you walk close to someone and it sort of 'lag'. Otherwise i'm happy with CS:S :D

Id have to agree with most of that, i was testing out alot of things with some people, u can pretty much shoot anywhere around the body and not hit them, and as soon as u aim somwhere onto the body, you hit them, i know its not per poly but its about as close as u can get with hitboxes, (makes a change from a giant invisible block moving round the map).

Ive been on alot of servers some do have lag, but ive also been on some damn perfect ones, 12 people without a single spike or jerk, even when bumping into teammates.

The weapons do aim a bit different and the crosshair seems to tighten a split second before ur aim acctully settles, which is somthing i would like changed, otherwise fine.

Ya, but were any of them actually moving when you tested it? Because I've seen some videos where people are aiming a couple feet behind a player that was running and still hit them.

We did try it running a few times, with different weapons, (to see if it was animation specific), it seemed fine, any game with a laggy server can have laggy hitboxes, i dunno what to say other than i havnt had a problem, i understand alot of people have though.

Being someone who never really religiously played 1.6 or CZ (or really any game, for that matter) I feel like I picked up CSS with little adjustment to what I felt 1.6 was but, I can imagine for someone who's been playing 1.6 since it became 1.6.. you're definately going to notice differences. I feel like rifles are certainly alot more life-like. If you spray, you're going to hit nothing but, if you crouch and hold, you're way more likely to nail someone. Obviously some strategy and tactics changes are required to switch. I don't feel like the netcode is poor nor do I think hitting anyone is extremely different or even hard to do, though..
