Wherever there are 'western' monarchies, they are typically highly democratized and often merely a tie to the past. Not all of them though. At least I think so.

The majority of the wealth of the Catholic Church and the Crown are in land. If they sell that up they lose the land as a source of income. It wouldn't be feasible in the long run...
