Portal 2 Black Screen, NEED HELP!

Hello i downloaded and started playing Portal 2 today and was very impressed, i had to leave for a little while and like anyone would closed Portal 2, i came back later to carry on playing and i simply couldn't get into the game, the startup, loading screen and menu is absolutely fine until i get into the playing part. All i can hear after that are sounds that sound like a scratched record looping and a black screen that soon closes the game? Please help, i just got the game today and I'm gutted about this... :x

Maybe it works now, there was a patch solving some black screens. Close and restart Steam to apply the patch ?
