as some of you may now know we have confirmed reports of a 'portal 2' coming out!!!

http://www.g4tv.com/xplay/blog/post/683036/Portal_2_Confirmed_on_XPlay.html

i would just like to hear your views on 'what it should be like' , 'who should be in it' , and of course should it have a connection bigger in anyway to the half-life series?

you are Chell. you have just woken up in the aperture science parking lot. GLaDOS has been destroyed, or has she? "thank you" in a sweet gentle tone and then a faint power down sound. you brush yourself down and explore...:x

so!!! howd'ya like so far!!!! of course all suggestions make no difference to the portal 2 storyline in any way! as these are just posted comments!:afro:

i will just copy-paste these into a word pad doc if i REALLY like them :)
and get better than mine you would have to be Terry Pratchet or William Nicholson!

This topic is wholly unnecesary, since theres already severla POrtal 2 discussion topics. Also, not to be a grammar nazi, but could you please not overuse smileys and exclamation points.

I think that scene outside of the enrichment center is just to create a false sense that you have escaped, and is just the next part of the tests, outdoor testing, and over a PA system, you here "WeLCOM to the OUtdOOR tes ting PorTion of ThE EnrichmenT cenTer. You didn'T thINK you COulD geT riD of ME thAt EasILy, DiD YoU?"

Noooo, Rashak, don't take it from me!.

After the misery and lonelyness of being a lab rat in a desolate barren abandoned testing facility, I cant accept my final escape was for naught!.

Plus you could just use the portal gun on the horizon, maybe a far away house, then make a portal at your feet, tada!, freedom.

Then you're in a dome and GlaDOS is really a beret-wearing ponce named Gladiov making a voyeuristic reality show about your mundane life from the comfort of his Moon-based studio.

edit: Or they coat everything on the horizon in the non-portal metal texture. Ah nuts.

The game will start with a crowbar falling in front of you, then you look up to see a helicopter flying to the North.

Excessive use of punctuation really does irritate me.

But I'm still wondering how they are going to make Portal 2.

How are they going to top the cake, though? Will the cake become some kind of running joke for the portal series, or will there be some other type of (preferably edible) objective. Like cookies, or "Happyland".

"DeAr ParTicPanT, wE reGret to-o iNform YOU of yOUr iMMinEnt tErmINatIon-" *static* "WElcoME to hAPpylaND sElectiON! REmembER, oNly gOOd teST sUbjeCts geT to hAPpylaND bY compleTinG aLl the TEsts!"

You have no idea how painful that was for me to write.

They just need to come up with a bunch more brillant GLaDOS lines. As long as the second one still has the same great humor, I'll love it.

I really just hope the humour remains.

As do I. Personally, I have no clue what to expect from Portal2. Even thought Portal was left at a cliffhanger, I really don't see what could come next. Unless, like, Gordon/Alyx find Chell in the Aperture yard or something in EP3. But, then again, that has nothing to do with Portal. Oops.

possibly the greatest post i have read in the last twenty seconds.

me, i hope portal 2 will center around this: chell has escaped, and while the main GLaDOS computer is highly damaged, she is currently repairing herself, core by core (that big room of personality cores with the cake in it? there for a reason). your task is to free other test subjects from apature befor GLaDOS can repair and possibly improve herself...

your main enemys will be the millitary androids (the android training area? test chamber 16?) and you can probably kill them by using the portal gun to redirect energy balls into them, or creating a portal between the ceiling of a room , and the bottom of a pit of acid...

valve could add some references to other games, like maby a puzzle revolving around the cake room, a gliching portal gun that every now and then teleports you somewere totally random (scenes from some of the half life games, the inside of a rocket, complet with gnome and lamarr, a room full of knocked out metrocops with an elvator just leaving, or maby even Gmans office...) and more...

sorry, but when i have ideas, i HAVE IDEAS.

yeah that would be great, but how could gordan drop his crowbar, maybe the heli will be on fire with a gunship chasing after it or something.

You wake up and you find yourself surrounded by hunters and!!.... im kidding:p but seriously, how about you wake up in a shed after taking a nap on a family farm that took you in (well i should tell you how you got there, at the end of portal the screen goes black jest to show the credits, not because Chell got knocked out or anything, and you stumble along a dirt road and a big jolly fellow brings you to his wife and kids back on the farm to rest and eat, you fall asleep and wake up <---- this is wear portal two starts). The wife is taking care of you when she say "my my looks like you made it after all, you must have been walking miles from that nasty explosion we heared (this is were you find out that you obviously woke up at some point and walked away from the aperture science lab explosion). "don't worry y'all be fine" the wife says. So after a little while you get your strength back you bid the family fair well and make your way to civilization (city 17 maybe?? no i dought it) and you go on some sort of plot line , but at the end when your about to win against the "big bad guy thing" you hear Glados " Congratulations you have passed to outdoor survival enrichment part of your test, please, go into the party position and await your cake..."

I hope its like HL1, only with good graphics.
It's set before Portal and is just as things start to go wrong with GLaDOS, resulting in you pushing many buttons and crawling through an impossible amount of air ducts.

Yes. I want next Portal to be prequel, based in Aperture Science in early 80's. That would be awesome.

A period piece? Interesting. They could do a lot worse than looking to Look Around You for some inspirational humour. I'd be surprised if they weren't already fans.

o thanks for clearing that up for me i got realy confused by ellimanest's post there. Im not sure a prequel would a good idea, because portal is based around the portal gun, and you cant go back in time when the portal gun wasent even created or else you wouldnt have portal, jest some off shoot. But of course before you worry about any of that stuff you need to know when Portal 1 was and were (which i dont). Was it before the 7 hour war? was it after? was it during half life 2 episode 1/2 or even Half Life 1? i have no idea.

I think a prequel would work well. It'd be set around 1996/1997, just after GLaDOS is completed and put into action. The first part of the game is spent testing prototypes of the portal gun, then GLaDOS goes insane and floods the center with neurotoxin and you have to use the gun to get to GLaDOS and install the morality core. The problem is that it would follow basically the same path as the first Portal game: test chambers, getting through the innards of the center, then finding GLaDOS.

I'm guessing that Portal is set shortly after the 7 Hour War. In the final scene GLaDOS says things like "things have changed since the last time you left the building" and "I'm the only thing standing between us and them". Presumably this refers to the Combine's takeover and she's been protecting the Enrichment Center.

Few would see it as a problem, since Portal was always a short game that people wanted more of. Even so, I imagine that the facility would have been less like a maze and more like a Black-Mesa style base before GlaDOS went insane. There'd be a lot more chances to drop in NPCs in a Aperture Resistance faction, and plenty of ways to expand the facility beyond the way that GlaDOS has it configured in Portal 1.

Yeah, I always thought Portal 2 would be a similar format, but with a different storyline and new puzzles, dialogue/monologue, etc.

I like the idea of a prequel a lot. There are several references to Aperture's past to be found, in the game, the developer comentary and at aperturescience.com, and it would be very great if they expanded on that. If not a prequel, then perhaps a game set at same time as Portal, inside the enrichment centre, but from the POV of someone else. The problem then though would be how to guide the player through the levels without GLaDOS leading you as a test subject. You'd see different parts of the centre, and maybe bits that crossed over with Portal 1, like in Opposing Force.

Thing is, it's got to be in an indoor environment, because outside it's hard to find surfaces that are smooth enough to make portals on. Everything's all organic and rough, and there's the matter of being able to cheat by making portals in bad places. It's much easier to create a controlled environment that's perfect for portal gameplay if you're indoors.

As for the humour, I'm sure Erik Wolpaw will think of something. I mean, it's what he does. Assuming they hire him again.

hmm yeah maybe when your trying to get to GlaDOS, one of your telports goes wrong (prototype portal gun) and you see a glimpse of the outside world with the combine taking over.

I don't believe that you'll wake up as Chell in portal 2, what would seem a little bit strange, seeing that the portal gun almost cant make any portals on the building because it needs a flat surface. And The surrounding was almost forest, (maybe it's in white forest? No) and what use would the portal gun have in a tree infested aria.

I believe that you will wake up as one of the old test subject, but there would be a twist. Maybe the old portal gun could effect time and scape continuum. the portal gun creates portals (dah) and portals are bending space, and if the portal gun could bend space, then why wouldn't in be able to bend time?

That would make a lot of confusing puzzles, but cool. It would open a lot of possibilities and maybe you could somehow find out what happened to the rest of aperture science...

But that's just my idea...

It's not just you who doesn't know. It isn't said or hinted very clearly as to when it is.
I think Chilifan is probably on to something about that line though. It could also be before though, isn't it odd how AS have similar technology to the combine, eg. turrets, energy orbs, voice over systems(with the same voice, sam actor I know but it may of been intended) and odd forcefield like things that can disable portals, or in the combines case, block people. Maybe it was Valve being lazy and re-using stuff to save time and effort, I dno.

Enemies would be tricky because there is know one to fight and no one to appose you, other then GLaDOS, and fighting turrets and big cookers with sliding platforms would get kinda dull.

An alternate idea is that you awake onboard the Borealis. You are one of the crewmembers who got teleported along with the ship. Theres about 5 mins of moving around, not meeting anyone and following the obvious route. You end up sealed in some room and thats when everywhere gets filled with gas, people scrape against the nearby window, but there's nothing you can do. They all die, and then GlaDOS comes on over the ship coms. The rest of the game is about you escaping the ship and getting to the top deck. Then realising your in the Arctic, and fighting to a helicopter in a Cargo Bay, all the time being stopped harrased by GLaDOS. Maybe you end up colliding with Gordon and Alyx. I dno anyway, that's it.

!!!

ok.... i am really surprised with A LOT of these posts!!!!

you guys are doing awesomely, thanks for the tips on not using to many emotes and punctuation ;)

but ye these posts are great.

and just a quick note, I've been on youtube for a while and spotted one that mentions seeing an hl2 zombie in portal....

so i can guess that this means that bm and as are joined together facilities...

and it also gives me a better idea for my p2 idea, ill post it later.

1. They are not joined companies, they are opposing. This is proved by the slideshow running in one of the rooms which shows that they're competing for some grant or something, and i think Kleiner says something to confirm this in Ep.2
2. That is such a fake, no way would no one of noticed it before now, and why would there be a zombie right there anyway.

How about the game being set when Cave Johnson went off his nut. Seriously, he could be the next Glados. His one line of dialogue(on the Aperature Science website) had me laughing for hours. You're the first person to use the Portal gun. CJ starts making you go through all of these ridiculous trails for the gun(assasinating world leaders, using the gun to go to the moon and back, and other neferious evil deeds) and other officials at Aperature tell you to eventually get rid of Cave, ending with you confronting him in a desert, with a play area of 14627 kilometres, using all the resources of the world to kill Cave, who is actually Hitler in a giant mecha suit, with lasers.

Couldnt forget lasers eh?

Portal 2... I dont ****ing care, I trust Valve to make it kick ass.

It could be based in an underwater city with space marines and lightsabers, and they would still make it awesome
imo

Also to add to Cave's mecha-suit: x-ray vision, wings, thrusters, a 50-foot long bazooka, a gavel, a spade, david spade, barbed wire, speakers, 4-wheel drive, 4 wheels, 1213 wheels, cd-player, and i-Pod, a TV, radio, a gravity gun, an anti everything gun, a death star, a creepy japanese girl, a swastika, an american flag, a signed copy of the Infest album by Papa Roach, spikes, glasses, a pool of lava, a mountain, the Pacific Ocean, the Indian Ocean, your mum, the solar system from Mars outward, a sticker in it's face, infomation about the case, a place where everyone can be happy, MI5, MIB, and a slice of Hawaian pizza.

ok... what i meant was not that they were not opposing companies just joined together in the middle or something like that :p because if you also go on the aperture sciences website it mentions that they are in a lock down phase which is also the same thing that black mesa went through....

I think the lockdown is referring to GLaDOS locking the facility shortly before flooding it with neurotoxin, but I'm not sure.
