my system specs:
AMD turion 64 bit 1.6GHz dual core processor, 1gig of ram, directx 9, and a GEforce Go 6150 265Mb video card.

So Half life 2 runs fine and TF2 is more bearable but Portal and HL2 Episode 1 are really bad. whats wrong?

Have you checked that your running the same or lower settings for portal, TF 2, and HL2 episode 1 as you are for HL2 and TF2? They are more graphics intensive than the original HL2 was, so will want at least the same, if not lower settings.

Also, have you got the latest drivers for your graphics chip?

I would advise an upgrade tbh, but going by your gfx, I assume you've got a laptop.

Try a defrag.
Ah and turion is laptop processor too :p

Ok :p I got nearly same pc as yours by the way :D

You SO Need to get a better dual core. They say for the game to run well, You should get a 2.5 (Atleast) GHZ Dual core processor.

EDIT: It has also been known GEforce Go runs really bad for some high end games. However to get the card I suggest, You'll Need to turn up your RAM By 1.0GB.

I have a NVIDIA 7800 GT 256MB GPU And the only thing that lags is when I turn my flashlight on in a detailed area (Caves, Buildings)

You'll Need to include this with at-least 2.0GB Of RAM.

Here you have a tutorial LINK

I run well TF2 on Radeon 9550 Amd64 3000+ and 512RAM
Don't worry man! you don't need to upgrade :p
