Okay, so usually I wouldn't contemplate a package PC but this one from Dell caught my eye. Specs can be seen here.I'm just trying to decide what the pitfalls of this could be.
I mean, the 8600GT's alright, not the best card out there, but it would be a generic card so wouldn't be tweaked at all, and I wouldn't be able to overclock it because they have the warranty clause forbidding it. The massive sexy screen would obviously be great for Photoshop work, and if it's got the X-Fi audiocard that would be good for my music production, but I just don't know. To be honest, Vista is a major detractor at this point, just because of it's unfinished-ness compared to XP, but, I'll have to upgrade eventually, and getting DX10 support now can't hurt for when I get Episode 2. (HDR and things)

I'm just not sure. Anyone got anything to say about the quality of this package? Of course, I would rather build a new computer, but my parents would prefer to get a new PC from somewhere reputable.

I wouldnt. Its always cheaper to buy the parts separately. You can also get a manufacturers warranty for most things nowadays.

It also depends on what games you plan on running...

Yes, that is the better option, but it's realistically not going to work. Planning on running? The Half-Life series of course... Well, it depends on the strength of the system, what games I plan to run. Ideally Crysis, Bioshock...

You can build a faster cheaper system yourself with a 8800 gts.

You will not run crysis with that PC. Maybe on the lowest settings, but wheres the fun in that? Im having trouble running the beta with a 8800 GTS and a better processor, so I can only imagine the FPS you would get.

If you cant build it, try looking at the stickied list of companies provided...some of them will custom build a system for you and ship it. I would really shoot for a quad core though.

that's a little pricey .. you could build a better rig for around the same price
