Over at Interlopers.net they have a weekly thing running called 'In the style of', which encourages people to make a screenshot sized piece of a level which fits into a weekly theme, this weeks was memoria from final fantasy 9. Anyway i mapped out something based on a picture and quite liked it, so i was thinking of turning it into an actual map...screenshot is below. Lemme know what you think, should i carry on making this, or make a daytime, jungle based research facility level...i cant decide

I say finish that. It's awesome as it is it just needs to be around three times the size to be playable. Just keep it in the same style :)

The stairs make is look not-blocky.. It just floats so well. That's probably the best bit.

personally i like the lit windows...looks cool and definately keep it in the same style as above.

that's pretty cool :)

i don't know how well it fits with HL2, but variety is always good

Alright ill carry on with it tomorrow...

It doesnt really fit into HL2 but it was never meant to be an actual level, cant hurt to experiment tho :)

It does fit with some imagination and some tweaking (Making a window usuable as a "sniper" spot? No ladder up though!)

Yeah but what about physics entities to throw around :S

Make it a CSS map then? No need for physical objects. The fact that it's not anything close to "reality" only adds to the wierdness of it being in CSS.

I actually would rather have it for CSS. It'd be awesome :D

Hmmm, ive never made a CSS map before though, i wouldnt know what to put where and why :) But theres no harm in looking into it...

MAKE THE JUNGLE MAP... cs:s is in dire need of some good foliage maps...

I say finish this map and then I think you should work on that jungle research facility (Sounds like it could be a lot like the Metal Gear Solid 3 research facility). Working on this will probably refine your mapping skills for when you work on your next map as well.

It's just a matter of bombspots and spawns with buyzones with a good layout. I wouldn't say it's simpler than a HL2DM map, but it's at least equal.

With the current variety of foliage available to use, it is near impossible to make a jungle map. All the jungle maps so far use custom models which frankly looks terrible.

that doesn't automatically make it impossible to make very nice custom foilage models, sprites and textures :)

Carried on making it for CSS, still very early stages..gettin kinda wierd tho lol - im just making it up as i go along...

Kinda the point of the map really...supposed to look different and out of place...not necessarily realistic, but not overkill :p

Trust me, it REALLY doesn't matter if things are out of place with the CSS world or extremly wierd. It can only be good at the end of it.

Just make sure you actually balance the gameplay or it'll suck badly. The light coming out of the ... thingy castle... thingy... is shittin cool.

Oh, and them firethingies needs to be models :)

U mean the stands? Yeah i kno, but i cant make models :(

The bit im working on at the moment, a sunny part of the map but probably the only one, unless i remove the sun and make it darker, undecided so far

damn that looks good mate, and ask someone to whip up a quick model for you, i would but i cant model atm ^.^
