Possible Shock for Australian HL2 fans - HL2 maybe banned

WTF!!!!!! thats F*#KING BULLSH-IT

the australian govt can go F.UcK themselfs

ive paid already for it through steam :flame: :flame: :flame: :flame: :flame:

:sniper: :sniper: :flame:

Hmm thats bad, if this does go thru and it is banned, ppl of hl2 can post em to Australia :)

it wouldn't surprise me. all us Aussies are on the verge of rampaging with shotguns and manipulators through our schools and shopping centres, so we're lucky the OFLC is there to protect us.... plus, there are many headcrabs and other aliens in our population that would be affected by the violence depicted in the game.

What I want to know though, is how this will affect my copy already purchased on Steam? If I only get access to a dumbed down version of the game I will have to resort to my pirate's wand to reinstate my copy back to its full potential.

Message to the OFLC.. Fark off!!

If it was banned, you must be able to get a refund or worst case a $xxx credit at the store - I find it most likely that they cannot stop a STEAM sale as the person who buys it must have a credit card and therefore was purchased by someone over 18 (I'm not sure how the agelimits apply here - or if you can use thoose other kinds, not sure what they are)

even then though, you could just buy it from "alaska" but they could trace the cards location or infact block you from sale when they check that your card is from Australia

although I would imagine they would just refund the steam sale and downgrade your account

this is all very highly improbable

I'm almost 100% certain the game will not be banned - they just... can't :(

i know its just a game.. BUT i really wanna just smash someones face in atm.. ive been waiting/following for this Game since it got annouced it was being made and now the Australian officals dont wanna let aussies play it, well they can go jump in the lake

i need some stress relief now.. im going 2 go outside and kick the footy around :flame:

Hahaha why is it as soon as I take a "break" from my bike rides and jogging, everyone seems to "remind" me of my "break" :p

but how are they going to controll it when steam is around?

No problem then. I guess they can't stop you from downloading it via Steam

It wont be banned. That site is talking jibberish. 100%.

It won't be banned. The only games that get banned in Australia are things that are obsurdly violent like manhunt, or have sexual themes in them like Leisure Suit Larry.

All the other games that have been rated 18+ in Europe are all rated 15+ here in Australia, e.g. State of Emergency. It's the same for the 17+ ratings in the US, all of those just get rated 15+ here.

I doubt very much that HL2 is violent enough to warrent a ban in Australia, unless of course there is a Gordon/Alyx love scene ;)

Does anyone know how it is that games with a 18+ rating get banned outright? Are the no adults in Australia? :)

I don't see this stopping them from playing it, there's always a way around it.

I assume you presume that the ENTIRE australian population will all of sudden get on www.************* and download the HL2 goodness?

Ok, sure there will be a very large group who will of course still get it, say more than 50% of teenagers (look at manhunt, it has been going around like wonkos choclate bars, only because it has been banned, I think that it is a very crap game)

The elder less piracy informed population would never get to experience half-life 2... quite sad really

That being said, NOTHING will stop me from getting half-life 2, I have paid for silver on steam.

I repeat, NOTHING :)

the OFLC will not ban it, it falls perfectly into the guidelines.
Aus. does not ban games on the basis of violence alone, there are only banned games when violence is connected with sex (eg GTA3)

an R18+ for pan is different, Aus has no r18, and so it gets pushed into ma15+.

Their R18+ is equivalent to our MA15+

EDIT: also, games only get banned in Aus for sale _in_ aus, so you could still use steam.

Well that would suck a penis of epic proportions.

I don't think it'll be banned though. If Doom 3 got through the censors i'm sure hl2 will be ok.

OMG that is complete HorseShi.T look at bloody doom 3.. that game should of been banned aswell then, more gore more F#Ucked up stuff in it.

Don't pull my leg...
Nothing in Australia is 'Banned'
GTA M15+ for Gods sake,
Don't even give this a SECOND of your thinking, its a no brainer.

HL2 WILL be coming to Australia, with NO CENSORSHIP and will recieve an MA15+ Rating.

We don't have 18+ etc here for games.
I can't believe you fellow Australians are worried at all!

im not worried.. i have not one worried bone in my body im just pissed off. im confident hl2 will come 2 aus.. but im just pissed that OCFL (what ever the **** it is) plays the australian population like bloody galars

There have been multiple games banned in the past (LSL and Manhunt are two recent examples)

We have strange censors...Leisure suit larry banned because of digital milk dispensers though Doom 3 we get to kill, maim, worship satan and rape moo cows (ok maybe not) and it gets through the censors fine.

I'm not overly worried...but anything can happen with those sick minded censors!!

I don't think it'll get banned. And if it does, it'll cause such an uproar that the government will give some serious thought to the screwy ratings system...

Maybe if the government catch you downloading it off steam they'll send you to bed early without any dinner!

I make that point in all seriousness.

not a chance fella's. we arent that rabid over here in australia. PEGI rated it 18+ because they can, we cant so everything gets through. Bout the only thing that didnt was POSTAL 2 and it only got banned cause it has gary coleman in it and gary coleman is a fag.

I wouldn't worry about it. Although I agree with the author of the article that it'll be interesting to see their approach, it will ultimately have the same effect as the ban on porn which is in force in all states and territories except the ACT. Just because you can't buy porn doesn't mean that they'll stop you from paying to download it off the net. The most that could possibly happen is that the Government forces local ISP's to close down or filter their content servers so that Australian's can't pre-load locally, but you'll find that HL2 will get an M18+ rating and all will be fine.

The OFLC also let through the film "Irreversible" with an R rating, and that film is easily the most disturbing film I have ever seen in my life.

Not too long ago, I questioned the Federal Attorney-General Phillip "Kids-behind-barbed-wire" Ruddock on the topic of the uniform defamation laws he's trying to push through. I mentioned that you can ultimately circumvent any such uniform laws by just getting someone to post it for you in America, which he conceded was probably true. Actually, it wasn't him, it was his advisor that came up to me later and we had a chat about it - Ruddock gave me a yarn about extra-territoriality that was meant to impress the conference. It didn't.

You shoulda given him a nipple twist...

sorry, just trying to bring you back down to earth

If it does get banned, we can always form AWHICLAWTSICMOTG... Aussies Who Hate Idiotic Censorship Laws And Want To Seriously Injure Certain Members Of The Government.

While this is a possibility, I think that it is very unlikely....

I still think the Australian community here should know about this :flame:

This is nothing to be concerned about. If Manhunt got through with an MA (which it did), HL2 will have no problems. Besides, Australian ratings are for products sold within Australia, so there's nothing wrong with purchasing through Steam or importing from somewhere else.

But then it was banned... haha

A ban just stops Australian retailers from selling the game. You can still buy it via Steam or from an international retailer (get it from one of our NZ stores and you'll have like 3 day delivery).
