Possible World of Warcraft Gold Duplication

First, here is a thread discussing the event, and possible explanations to the cause of it.

And now here are a few screenshots

This was me talking to someone recently on Mannoroth about it.

Mannoroth AH at the height of the event.

GMs silencing everyone on the server (or within reach of the AH at least), trying to contain the outbreak.

Pretty crazy event in WoW history. Nothing of this scale has ever happened. I only know of the events which happened on Mannoroth (a single realm), any other realms involved are just rumours at this point. At least from my vantage point, that is how I see it.

btw no one cares about your feelings on this game. A lot of people around here play it, that was enough for me to post it.

On topic, that's pretty intense. They had to silence everybody to contain it. I wonder how long it took for someone to find it, then spread it enough to hit hard before they notice. That's awesome. But bad at the same time.

The GMs ended up banning anyone connected to it (even remotely by receiving gold from random people) and then deleted all of their gold.

Sucks for the people who legitimately had a lot of gold, but then received more from the gold duplicating, and had ALL of their gold wiped.

And I actually dont have a problem with WoW at all... I just wanted to make fun of that last line in your post.

And it doesnt suck for those people who had a lot of gold. They cheated and thus deserve penalty. They got their comeuppance.

The people who got the gold through auctions or from trades had thier accounts restored. It was just the gold duplicaters that got closed down >_> Reminds me early in beta when they found out that you could make tons of gold just exploring and finding new areas. I bet the patch made an item resell for less than what you sold it for allowing to buy, sell, rebuy, sell, and so on till you made a ton of gold :O

Your "logic" can basically be made clear in such an example:

As for the gold duping, nobody on my server has heard about it. Kudos to Blizzard for managing to keep a lid on it so well. I personally wouldn't touch the exploit since I don't really feel like losing all my Tier 2 items and hours of play. But the experience of going through lockdown would be interesting.

It's amazing what hacks and stuff go on in WoW now-a-days. Any game played as much as WoW is bound to be given the amount of retarded scenarios such as gold duplicating.

I think it's a good lessen to what hacks and threats can take place in an MMO for other companies though.

I wouldn't have liked all my gold wiped just for taking 10 duped golds worth ;(

Do I go into every 1.6 thread and bash Valve ? No, I 2 or 3 threads I have put forward my distaste for a certain thing Valve have done, unlike yourself and others who barrage GoW, Halo2 and other game threads with the same repetitive comments. Sure, opinions are great but no one cares for the 13th time you don't like it.

And no, I don't post every time, there was what, the marketplace thing and the ads, what other ones were there ? I hardly play either so I don't really care about most updates just those 2 major ones I figured I'd say something.
