I'm in the market for a new tv and have come close to deciding what to go with but i would like hl2.net's opinion as well.

lcd? plasma? contrast ratio? tell me about your tv and why you like it

EDIT: i didn't ask for projectors cause i'm not looking to get one but if YOU use one feel free to tell

go LED or LCD and preferably Samsung or LG. contrast ratio is good if over 20,000 but every company seems to rate their own contrast ratio so if your going to a store try to mess with the controls and see what settings you can change (like movie mode, game mode, warm temp/cool tem etc). also is this for a PC or you living room or bedroom?? if your getting Plasma, make sure you remember it has glare to it because of the glass screen in the front of it which sucks if you have windows or sunlight coming in. what size are you looking for and whats your price window??

My TV is a Sony 40v2500. It's good but if I bought it again I would really consider a plasma for picture quality. At the time I was thinking LCD for the resolution since most plasmas back then were 1366x768 (even though the top quality screen was a 1366x768 Plasma) and I use my screen with my HTPC. And 1920x1080 is much closer to that of a high resolution PC than 1366x768.

But now I realize that in the living room setting you are far from the screen and that resolution makes web print SMALL. I have text size increased right now. And I do like that I don't have to scroll a ton on web pages like if I had used 1366x768. But now I know the resolution wouldn't have really mattered and I could have gone with a plasma.

LCD, nice HDTV. It works for what I want it to(consoles), but I'm not really a big TV guy.

How big is your living/viewing room? I was eyeballing a fairly large display but went for a 23" Apple HD Cinema display (my living room is kinda small). Anything bigger would have been too much, given where I sit in relation to the wall. I think most displays will work pretty well, but I like this because it's 1920x1200 and it's 'clean': there's nothing but a small, silver frame around the display (plus it comes with a USB hub in the display with the cables combined with power and video into a single line to the computer).

Plasma for sure. If you get a samsung check the input lag on the new models. The few year old models had like ~100ms input lag.

Have a 42" plasma and 61" Rear proj HDTV. Prefer the rear proj, just seems to be built for movies and shit. Oh and model matters. I remember we had a different one that seemed of lower quality, you move just a bit and the screen looked different, but it got b0rk'd and replaced with a different model and thats the one we still have today, definitely better. Though I'm not sure if they even sell the former kind anymore.
