with a pentium 4 prescott CPU
Radeon 9800 Pro
1 DVD ROM
1 CD-RW (52x48x52x)
1 Sata 7200rpm
1 ATA133 7200rpm
1 older ata66 5,400rpm
3 chassis fans
stock CPU fan

and a 420Watt PSU
is this plentiful?
ive still got another fan to install, and another hard drive to order.
all my molex connectors have been used up too.

thanks

its plenty, my 250 watt no name 8a 12+ works fine with my system

my concern is the 3.3v line is not with the +/- 5% range
can go to well over 3.472V
this might be me being paranoid
sometimes the 5v line can go out with its range.
its the Raidmax 420W that came with the case
32A on the +5V
13A on the +12V

maybe i am being paranoid

ignore the -12V. The +V is what matters.

Ideally for modern pc's and components you need at least 30A on the 12V+ Rail,
If your thinking about a new Psu, I can highly recommend a psu I bought from www.aria.co.uk its the 550Watt Clear psu, Current price is about £34.

(8 psu's down).

It has been ultra stable since I bought it 9 months ago, And as well as UV reactive cables and molex connectors, it has 2, blue 80mm fans (intake & exhaust), The cables are neatly wrapped with good length, it easily reaches the bottom of my Lian Li PC75 server case, And it has 37A on the 12V+ Rail.

Here's a pic and the description.

cool thanks, looks amazing.
is aria.co.uk the only website that sells them? im going to make anothe order of overclockers.co.uk at the end of next month, but cant seem to find it on there.
my Maxtor S-ATA hard drive can take a molex connector as well as a S-ATA power connector, though i do have adapters that came with my mobo, i just use the molex.

it says i need about 360Watt PSU on that power calculator. but i would like a new one anyway. i dont trust the volts on mine, plus it sounds like a bloody airport! so loud!

and just to note, does anybody know where to get screws that fit your DVD-ROM/CD-RW drives, the Akasa Type 1 thumbscrews only fit my hard drives.
so 13A is a bit vague i take it.
im not sure, but my CD-Read speeds only go to 19.4x MAX when donig the Nero tests. i dont know if its the DVDROM bringing it down, or if its the lack of amps. even my max burning speed has been capped at 40x and its a 52x. (theres a thread in this forum somehwere, just gonna look for it). before you say its the 80 pin wire, i got Akasa rounded IDE ATA-133 cables.

I've only found that psu at aria, sorry!

I bought my cpu from aria,(they claimed it was the clawhammer, 2.0ghz & 1mb L2 cache, But when they sent it, it was the newcastle, its good enough though.

I got the board, ram and case from overclockers, though!

Not sure about your CD RW, does'nt sound like a power problem.

As for screws, look at a old computer, or pop along to a local pc shop and get some them, they should give them to you for free, or a few pence.
And the 80 pin IDE cables are not used on CD/DVD drives, they work but are only really for Hard drives, 40 of the wires are earths, for extra shielding or something, cuts out interference or such like.

Since CD/DVD drives are essentially the UDMA 33 or 66 standard and HD's are anything from UDMA 66, UDMA 100, ATA 100, ATA 133 and the newer standard being SATA 150, which are different cables anyway.

in another thread in this section, somebody said something about Nero only allowing max 40x burning speed on a 52x or 48x recorder, and a response said to get the faster speeds u need 80 pin cables.

about screws, the last time i was at PCWorld (my dad buying a laptop) i asked for screws. there were only fan-mounting screws, but no DVD/CDROM screws. he couldnt even tell me where to get any when i asked him, he made it out you cant! the bastard.

no old computers to look for other screws in this house unfortunately
