Hey!

I have a pretty nice computer, a MSI GNB MAX Fisr motherboard with 1gb ram, a 2.4ghz 533fsb processor and a radeon 9700pro video card. I have had serious trouble with it recently though.I have my video card driver settings on default, and I have tweaked them every way but in any computer game I get great frame rates for about 5 seconds at a time and then the rate drops severely to about 2fps for a period of 2 seconds. This recurs for the duration of play. This make games totally unplayable. This does not only effect video games, but also executable Bink video files as well. I have updated every single driver for my system, and I am simply baffled by this problem. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Yeah, I just formatted yesterday, but I should run a virus scan. The problem is that my registration code for Norton Systemworks got lost. Do you think I could call their customer service line and get help? Ohh yeah, one thing to note is that in any full screen application, according to the task manager, my processor use goes up to 100% and sticks there until i minimize the app, and when i minimize the app the computer goes back down to like 5% CPU use. This holds even at 640x480. Could others check to see if this is normal? Thanks a million!

I've had this problem too, but it usually happens when I am in AOL (it has been happening since I upgraded it to "SE") and I open too many windows too quickly. I had no trouble at all doing this with the old AOL, so I don't know what the problem is. It may not be AOL's fault though, since I remember it happening a few days ago when I tried to minimize the HL2 2K4 video in Realplayer...hmmmm....maybe I should run a virus scan too :|

hehehe you have AOL :P (sorry couldnt resist) find out what program (exe) is using the cpu cycles and google it... might be something dodgy if you dont have an antivirus and have a net connection (also get Ad Aware) AVG is a free antivirus til you get your norton issue sorted!

Go to google and search for Stinger. It's a great virus scanner it'll wipe out any viruses you have and it's free.

Yep, the horrid AOL :P I'll check what program is using the CPU next time, but if my memory serves me, I believe it was aoltpspd.exe. I ran a virus scan with Norton but didn't find anything :( It hasn't happened for a while, so maybe the problem fixed itself ;)
