Powerful engine indeed!

Counter-strike 1.6 realy must have a powerful engine! I mean i get 60fps in Doom 3, but in Aztec in cs I get like 40-50fps!

So has anyone got any suggestions? My resolution is at 800*600.

Deleting the CS folder from SteamApps/<account> has helped me in the past.

It's an old engine. Modern engines tend to use modern graphics hardware more effectivly than old engines, because modern graphics cards have features which allow the engine to offload lots of graphics processing onto the GPU, which speeds things up a lot.

I don't even think the HL engine does hardware T&L, so all the transforms are being done by CPU, whereas in modern engines it's all done by the dedicated GPU hardware.

Drivers clashes.

Opengl mode works better on the HL engine.

I would agree. if you are getting frame rates that low, I would think that indicates a compatibility issue with the hardware or drivers, or a settings error.

Also, the last I remember, HL's frame counter wouldn't show anything over a certain number set in the cvars (or whatever their called). max_framerate or something. That wasn't CS 1.6 though...

make sure your running in Opengl! or your hardware will really suffer~

I have opengl running, no aa no af. In 1.5 i always got 100fps no matter how many players or smoke granades on screen.

In aztec I only get 50fps in the open area part, but thats where all the ct/terrorists come.

Every other game runs smooth. But now I don't have to worry about that Cs cause I uninstalled it and bought Call Of Duty

you using an ATI? Make sure ATI sub and ATI something else are set to 0 in your config for all HL1 based games

You've already uninstalled; however entering cl_weather 0 in the console would likely to fix your problem. The new aztec seems to give perfomance hits to some people, and theres other settings you can change but cant remember off the top of my head.

I have uninstalled the game for a few times. ati_subdiv ati_npatch, you mean these? They are off, weather is off, r_mmx is on. I'll just wait for Hl2 and start playing it (if it is good). While waiting Cod will be my friend

But if someone knows any good configs please let me know
