Pre-load stops -- verifying game files?

The Pre-load froze so I tried pausing it then hitting continue. When I hit continue a window pops up saying it's validating game files. Why does it need to do that? Has anyone else had the window pop-up?

I had this problem too. Cancel the preload. Warning this will remove all
previous preload files. Then remove the ClientInstall.blog file. Then
re-start the preload. All 4 preload files will then be loaded onto your
computer. Yay!

If and only if the above method doesn't work try this.

You may be able to avoid re-downloading everything. Check the gcf files in the SteamApps folder. Look at the date modified. If they all have the same date/times, you'll have to download everything again. Otherwise, while not logged in to Steam, save the most recent ones (I just move them to a SteamApps\temp folder), leaving the others in SteamApps. Start Steam, and cancel you pre-load. The preload GCFs in left in the SteamApps folder will be deleted. Restart the pre-load and log off Steam. Replace the new GCFs from the preload you just started with the old ones you saved. Start Steam again and the pre-load will work, and it won't download the GCFs you saved.

Can save a GB or 2 of download.
