Prefabs

Hey. I'm new to this whole mapping business, and i have use this tutorial - http://www.planethalflife.com/schrade/theproject/tutorials/3/firstroom.htm to create my first room. However, I don't understand how prefabs work. It tells me to select the block tool and select crates from the category box. I don't have crates... i just have entities, prefabs, and prefabs hl2. Where can i get all these basic prefabs?

Any help would be appreciated :D

Whoops - i mean primitive, prefabs and hl2 prefabs. I think I must have a file missing... anyone know?
 
the tutorial refers to worldcraft/hl1.
use prop_physics or prop_physics_multyplayer instead and choose the appropriate model.
 
Ok, but surely if i chose an explodable barrel, it wont explode because the settings aren't prefabbed... i think :S
 
if you want the barrel to respawn after its destruction just use prop_physics_respawnable and make the needed settings using properties. if anything is set save it as prefab.

One last thing - how do i save as prefab?
 
Create Prefab, I belive, under the prefabs when you have the selected items.

I'd be nice to have the prefabs shown in the tutorial though. Does anybody know where to get them? If anybody has them could you possibly send me the folder with them in or whatever?
 
theres a list of prefabs in the top right, when you select PrefabsHL2 there will be another dropdown menu near there and theres a few HL2 prefabs in it.

Also when you use a model with its correct prop_*** it will perform as it should, so when you choose an exploding barrel with prop_physics it will explode just fine.
 
Cheers dude. I've just made a smashable glass window... I think i'm getting the hang of this mapping business :D
 
I have a problem with my flame barrels...they will catch on fire and then explode the first time, but the second time they will not catch on fire, and they will not blow other barrels up beside them. I have followed tutorials, and even followed valve but mine will not work. Can anybody help me?
 
You've probably made a small error. Start a new map and try it this way:

1) Create entity (prop_physics)
2) Set world model to explosive barrel (Its in props_c17)
3) Position it in your world - make sure its not inside a wall or floor.
