Pregnant woman stabs man to death at own baby shower

The man, who had come to collect a debt, was dealt a deadly stab wound instead, allegedly by the guest of honour, a woman seven months pregnant with a baby boy. She had been slicing bananas for the fruit tray just moments earlier, according to two young women who watched the bizarre scene unfold.

Ms. Besito said she was making Thank You cards at the living-room table when the man, identified by Peel Region police as Jay Kumar Atha, 21, burst in and demanded repayment from the expectant couple. "We don't know what [the money] was for," said Kayla Rowsell, another shower guest, but the man warned he would take the couple's TV and computer unless they paid up.

"He was disrupting everything and [Ms. Lanthier] told him to come back when the baby shower was done, and he just wouldn't leave," Ms. Besito said. When he started handling the computer roughly, the mother-to-be went at him with the knife, stabbing him once in the chest, she said.

Constable Patterson said the couple's relationship to Mr. Atha was based on drugs, but would not elaborate further, other than to say "Either you're receiving or you're selling, right? That's pretty simple."

Asked if Ms. Lanthier used drugs, Ms. Besito said, "Not any more since she's pregnant. She was doing very good with the baby. She was so excited and she was looking forward to the baby shower for two months since we started planning it. And then this happens."

? this is what happens? she stabbed someone at her own goddam baby shower. this is not normal. my wife had a baby shower for my first born and it was relatively corpse free

'Baby shower' always makes me think of an infant rain, and this news story just makes me think of an epic action sequence where two people knife fight while dodging falling babies.
