Preload cancels due to no hd space

Is there anyway to redirect HL2 preloading to different HD drive.
Preload stops due to no space left on c:

You have to have steam on the drive you use steam with.

Ok, so i can just move the entire directory?

You can, but shortcuts won't find it, you will have to redirect your steam shortcuts, and/or game shortcuts.

I really don't reccomend copying it though. Copy the cache files by all mean, but install Steam itself from the actual installer.

Reinstalling

Deleting and reinstalling steam wont change any of my settings or delete account information regarding my purchases?

No, all your purchase information and what games you have access to are stored on the steam server, not your pc.

The best thing to do is copy steam to a temporary folder on another hd (the entire steam directory). Then uninstall steam from your C:, and reinstall it onto a new drive (using the installer online).
Then, once it's installed, close it as soon as it starts loading and tries to update itself. Then copy everything from 'steamapps' in your temporary folder into 'steamapps' in your new install.

Then when you run steam, it should work fine
