Preload...where exactly???

where the hell has hl2 been preloaded to????

i know its under valve, steam and steam apps, but i just cant find it anyway. people are saying they're getting .jpegs of characters etc etc etc, whereas i just get NO TYPE OF FILE WHAT SO EVER....

they're .gcf files.

u need to use a .gcf file viewer to see those files...but it doesn't matter since they are encrypted... i wouldn't bother if i were u..

There are jpg files of the models which are probably there for development purposes but since they are encrypted they can't be viewed.

no my point is, i didnt explain well earlier, where is the actual file that holds the seperate files??? i cant find a hl2 file anywhere.

The preload material doesn't have "HL2" in the filename.

The files are stored in \Program Files\Steam\SteamApps

[EDIT] Okay, you mentioned "base source shared.gcf." I'm not sure what that is. One my machines has it (ATI voucher) but the other doesn't.

As the name might suggest, it's shared between the games. It's downloaded with CSS or pre-loaded with HL2.
