I just done a clean install of XP but still have the stream folder and game data preloaded for HL2 on another drive. Will i need to re download the HL2 datafiles? or will installing Steam to the same location be enough for it to know that i have already a "locked version of Half Life 2" still.

Well...
1.) Can your computer tower support 2 HDs? If so You can just use the one with Steam on it as a Slave probobly (and just use that drive for Steam)
2.) You should be able to download steam on your new WindowsXP and install it.. then log with the same account, then log back off and close steam then copy over all the stuff in your SteamApps folder... to my knoledge that SHOULD work, anyone comfirm?

Thanks, i was able to reinstall Steam and i backed up the steamapps folder, then placed it inside Steam again when i tried to update HL2 again it said "When the game is officially released, youll be able to play it immediatly" OMG :) Cheerin.

Nearly everything is have is stored on my 2nd/'D' drive.
When i downloaded Steam, i created the folder on 'D' and all the subsequent Pre-Loaded files were also there.

For some reason, my PC starting acting weird so i reluctantly did a complete format of C: and reloaded XP. I re-downloaded the steam client software again and kept with the same directory on 'D'. when i selected 'play HL2', it already stated that all files were loaded 100%.

Ive since connected to steam for CS:S and everything seems okay. No further DL's were needed.
