preparing to play halflife2

Hey ppl,

First post here, so ill just get to the point. I need help!
I just bought Half life 2 in the store, the dvd one.

Now i installed it, created a acount with steam. unlocked the files, downloaded the updates. and now i want to play!

unfortunatly, when i start steam, click play games and select halflife2 the box comes up with saying "Preparing to play halflife 2" and then the box just disappears. No errors what so ever.

Anybody has the same problem and knows how to fix it? It would be greatly appriciated!!

hi had same prob...opened a post..got no reply so i waited till download was finished...
it seem y have to wait untill all is downloaded of game... for me it took 3 hours until game started... install, stream, unlock, then y press play to start the game and get yr message y described before....from this situation ca 1 more houre untill game will start... be patient i had same prob as y before...no 3 hours later game works fine... good luck!!

But i wonder, i have the game on DVD why do i need to download more stuff :S
