Preparing To Play Then, Nothing. Help!!!

ok i have installed HL2 on my sisters comp so she can have ago, but when i install it and do the little update you have to do, it say preparing to play then nothing happens, well the disk drive spins but then dies away. The thing is hl2.exe is loading because it comes up task manager


help would be great.

HL2 + CSS problem

hey guys
i don't mean to join the party or anything, but i have that problem too. its happened with a few games on my computer (Alienware :E ) and i have to open ports to fix it.
Maybe that could be the problem??

Launch Problems

I had a very similar problem, by renaming the "ClientRegistry.blob" file to "ClientRegistry.old" found in the root of the Steam folder it is recreated by Steam and the game started to work.

yesss iv been having the exact same problem --- once again with a number of games (but not all). is this something wrong with my computer and if so how can this be fixed?
