**Sorry I posted this in the wrong forum I meant to put it in General Gaming**

What do you guys think?

I like Doom 3 and Quake 4 a good amount and I'm just curious as to some direct comparisons.

Thanx

Prey is awsome u should check out the demo, gravity is like a 3 dimensional world, Its better than Doom 3 & quake 4 by far.

any news abt sys req of prey.
i am having a pc with AMD sempron 2.6 Ghz, 512 mb 444mhz physical memeory, 128 mb GeForce FX 5600 card. any i ideal whether it will run in my machine

If it can't beat those 2 there's no hope for the Doom 3 engine :p

Quake 4 is a horrible, horrible game. Prey should be at least 20x better than it. Doom 3 isn't a horrible, horrible game. Its just an average game.

I finished Quake 4, very meh. I didn't finish Doom 3, I got too bored of it.

Heh remember the days before HL2 came out and the forum was under constant siege from Tech quoting Doom Fanbois jibbering on about how the D3 engine was the balls and Source sucked donkey cock....I miss those guys..whatever happened to them?

Prey seems to be the best use of the D3 engine so far..but that isn't saying a lot to my mind.

Y is Quake 4 horrible, as u put it, but not as for Doom 3?

I thought D3 was boring, too much of the same crap. Quake 4 is good, has better graphics slightly, the guns can be weak at times, but overall its a good game. What lets D3 down was the darkness, u couldnt enjoy the environment as your couldn't see a damn thing.

I'm playing Quake 4 right now, I'm about 2 hours in and I do agree with what everyone else has been saying. It's pretty basic, walk down this corridor/shoot these guys, clear this room, go down another corridor/rinse and repeat. I never finished doom 3 because it was just too boring. The Prey demo was definately something to see, haven't played the full yet.

I just beat Prey this morning and it was awesome. A lot better than what some of these critics have been saying. I really liked the design of the game. Great weapons and a pretty decent story too. I'd give it an 8/10.

There are three things that set prey a little apart from d3 and q4.
Number one is portals and gravityflipping, which is very very smooth and quite fun.
Number two are the weapons which are just enough different to make it fun.
Number three is the spiritwalking which adds some variety to the game (admittedly not much) and takes away most of the need for quickload.

The look, feel, and gameplay are otherwise extremely similar to d3 and q4, both of which I have played and found reasonably amusing.

.bog.

I'm at the end of Q4 and I can't bring myself to finish the damn thing- it's fun, but very "meh". Doom III I liked far more- I've beaten it several times. Prey is easily the most unique, best looking, and coolest of the bunch- I like it far more than either.

The design is terrible. The plot is horrible. The gameplay is boring. I could go on.

Being better than Q4 and Doom3 is like saying smelling flowers is better than smelling crap, it's a nobrainer.

Prey is an average shooter through and through. It has these revolutionairy sounding features, gravity switching, wall walking, portals, but they really aren't that revolutionairy. For the most part, portals are doors, there's really nothing about them that makes them really cool. Wall walking and gravity switching are neat gimmicks but they don't provide much to the gameplay. Gravity switching and wall walking are just another way to do puzzles, there's nothing inherently revolutionairy about them.

The bad things about Prey abound. It's way too easy, even without deathwalk. Enemies flatout refuse to shoot you unless you stand still for 2-3 seconds. If you thought the imp was over-used in Doom3, you'll be surprised at how many times you fight the same monster over and over in Prey (I think he's called a hunter, not too sure). You literally fight him 90% of the time, always armed with the same gun. The worst part is that you never face anything more than 3 or 4 guys at once. There is zero intensity in the combat. You can literally beat the game using just the first automatic rifle you get. The story is cliched. The voice acting is so-so. The vehicle parts of the game are pretty boring. Prey is an average game at best.

i agree prey is an average shooter and its features are mainly gimmicks althought they are cool and new.
The portals were good in a few instances where they were used to solve puzzles and wasnt just a glorified door.
The gravity thing was good at first but then jus became a generic puzzle.
All in all id say 7.5-8 out of 10.....however even though it is an average shooter you have to keep in mind the next iteration will probably be a whole lot better, and also theres not many other decent fps's to play after episode 1 which i guess makes this game worth while.

I dunno, but, because of the Doom III engine... Quake 4 and Prey... feel like... well... Doom III. I guess they can't do much to make it feel different, but, Quake Wars looks pretty nice.

I got bored with the Prey demo pretty quickly.

o_O

I thought Q4 level design was pretty damn good.

But its just corridors. Dull, drab and boring corridors. I remember walking through the Nexus towards the big-ass brain, and for some reason the floor was full of ammo - both human and strogg weapons. What the fook? The final chamber was little more than a deathmatch arena. What, portals in each corner?

The toxic waste facility....the Nexus hub station....very poor stuff.

totally agree...Q4 sucks!! they had waisted their time by making this type of crap......its look nice in sites, wallpapers etc., relating to thread I think Doom 3 is better than Prey.

Quake 1 & 2 were just corridors yet those 2 games were as big as HL, they are still played now.

Shows what knowledge some people know about games.

I liked Quake 4 far more than Doom 3.

Yeah I agree I liked Q4 more than Doom3, but it still is a disgrace to the Quake series. Maybe it would've been better if Id made a sequel to Q3 instead of Q2, a game based on multiplayer only with bots, many more game mods and stuff. That would've been awesome since I love Q3 and the multiplayer in Q4 sucks.

So for me it is Prey>Q4>Doom3

Quake 4 was great, but the multiplayer was pretty boring if you ask me.

I just got prey yesterday...and I'm still working on beating it.

Doom 3....it was alright. But as a doom game I expected a lot better.

Quake 1 was released in 1996. Quake 2 in 1997. Quake 4 was released in 2005. Believe it or not, 8 years on, there has been a slight change in gaming.

Lets have some common sense please.

I prefered Doom 3 to all of them....mostly because I like the story and concepts behind Doom. The atmosphere and the pace were perfect. It's really just a toss-up between Quake 4 and Prey to me....both were enjoyable.

Believe it or not, Doom 3 has been the best received of all three games (according to Gamerankings.com). Doom 3 grabs an 87%, Prey gets 84%, Quake 4's getting an 81%.

It had its moments. The trenches bits were cool as was the "twist" (well, it would've been if they hadn't shouted it from the roof-tops before the game was even released) but beyond that... Meh.

Yeah, the twist that they decided would be better off in the ears of the public before release. They probably knew it was the only thing going for them. HUD colour change and use of on-the-wall health stations! I'm feeling the 'Strogg' flow through me.

I thought Quake 4 had a good concept, and a decent story, except they could not deliver it correctly in the game.

Like I said , Prey is better than D3 and Q4 but that doesn't say much.

It's true that Quake II is also mostly corridors. However, besides the eight-year gap, the difference is that Quake II is also insanely fun. Seriously. I replayed it a bit ago, and it blew me away how much fun I had! Quake IV was nowhere near that level.

Well, to be fair, you could jump farther and run slightly faster if I remember correctly. Also, there was a 25 HP boost. However, these things effected the gameplay marginally at best and really didn't make it more interesting. Now, if you had marines trying to take you out (post-stroggification), or whatever, it would have made it slightly engaging.

I never said it effected the gameplay much, just saying it was there for the sake of fact.
