Prey locking up // rebooting my computer

I'm currently running a 3.0 Ghz HT processor with 1 gig of RAM and a GeForce6600 Ultra.

Recently I bought Prey, I downloaded and ran it, and got up to the point in the intro where you're free-roaming in the bar, and then my computer locked up, my CRT monitor turned black as though the computer had gone idle, the sound still played though, and then restarted.

Thinking this might've been a one time thing, I restarted Prey, and even before Tommy could get through abusing himself at the bathroom sink I get the same lockup and restart I got before.

Has anyone else gotten this? If so, is there a fix?

Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

It could be anything, but that's what happens from graphics card instability, and your graphics card crashes. Over-clocking too high?

I'm only familiar with ATi, you can reduce the clocks though the control center and then try it. Reduce them lower than default some if you have to. Never had to myself, but it's worth a try. It might be really ****in hot in your room too.

If this doesn't work your best bet is a search on 3D realms forums. Isn't that who makes the game?

Do you know if game needs to be updated?

Ceck with prey forum for possible answers?

Drivers updated?

OC-ed.

Temperature?

List goes on but I'm gonna give you these to start with.

Good Luck.

I just bought the game so I would assume it doesn't need to be updated.

I have the latest GeForce series 6 driver, it's not overclocked.

Temp would be the only factor I would think of, it's 81*F here, so I'm turning on the A/C to help.

If theres any more information on this that could help, I'd love to hear anything that could help figure this out.

Don't assume that the game is patched, go and check fot patches instead.

Fixed.

There was something about a bad RAM slot, all I did was shift the RAM stick down by one and it worked like a charm.

Thanks for your help anyways guys!
