well im trying to install xp on a diff computer upstairs and well everytime it initializes and sets up all the formating stuff and when it comes time to reboot, after it reboots it gets to this one screen where it says........press any key to boot from CD...

now it told me to reboot so it can start installing..and i cant click any button to start anything, it will just take me back to the blue screen where it asks me about formating the drive...i want to continue the instalation and finsh installing xp..

anyone know the solution?

After is formats and it restarts, don't press anything to boot from CD. Just let it pass.

well i have waited...it just sits there...forever. could it be something wrong about my boot sequence??

go through the setup process again (reformat, but i'd do Quick Format (NTFS) this time) and when it reboots just let the PC sit DONT TOUCH ANYTHING. It should install, also what are the specs on the PC u want to install XP to?

*edit: also is ur copy of XP legal? lol

Make sure your Hard Drive is set to boot before your CD in BIOS...
or just eject the CD and let the computer boot up, if the install still needs the disk, it will ask for it.

Make sure that your boot seqence is floppy disc -> CD -> Harddrive.

1. Boot up using a Windows 98 boot floppy disc (DON'T INSERT THE XP CD)
2. Run FDISK and remove the current partition and then create a new primary partition.
3. Restart and boot up with teh win98 boot disc again, and then format the hard drive.
4. Start smartdrv (if it is on the win 98 boot floppy disc)
5. Insert the windows xp cd and navagate to the i386 folder on the cd, and type "winnt"
6. When the installation starts leave it and then when its about to restart to start the 2nd phase of the installation, remove the boot disc and cd and let it do its stuff.
7. Let it finish the installation remembering to choose the option of converting the drive to NTFS.

You shouldn't have any problems installing XP this way, I have installed it on loads of different computers this way and havent had any problems.

Just take your CD out of the drive when it gets to that screen. I just freshly installed 2k on both these computers and thats what I needed to do.

alright guys thanks, ill try it tonight and post the results
