PROBLEM Please Help......

yo whats good.. i played half life 2 deathmatch and got really addicted at a friends house, so i went out to buy it. But when i enter a server my latency automatically jumps up to like 300+ and i dont know what to do to reduce my latency. And i dont have much knowledge of computers. PLEASE HELP.... I REALLY WANNA PLAY THIS GAME...

1.60 Ghz intel pentium 4 Processor
512 MB PC2100 DDR
and i d/l directX 9

everything but proc is good, just lower setting until you get a good one in video settings, just play aroudn with them until you get one you are good w/

This has nothing to do with the cpu or vid card, this is the internet connection. Make sure you computer is virus/spyware free, that no program that uses internet is running in the background other than Steam and HLDM. You're not on dialup huh? lol. And sort the server list by ping and choose the one with the lowest ping. How fast do you download on ..hum.. let say microsoft website? Try to download something on that web site and tell us how many KB/s you download (average).

no lag is a affected by both video settings and connection. If your card cant handle what is being rendered, the fastest connection would still lag
