Problem running hl2

hey, ive played hl2 many times, but when i istalled it again it couldn't run the program.. i clicked on luch game, and nothing happend-- please help.. im desperate to play it because im grounded for a week !!

Microsoft XP
Intel P. 4.
3 GHz (one processor)
512 MB RAM
216MB video card ATI RADEON 9550 AGP (old, but it works)

ooo and um. adding some more info again. ill clarify my first thread.. i intslled hl2, hl2: deathmatch, and COunter strike.. and everything went good.. i also intalled steam. Everything got installed nicely.. but when i tried to open and play hl2, the cursor and the machine began to "launch/load", but after 10 secs, it appeared as if i hadnt clicked anything.. it liked stop thiniking.. i tried lots of things, re-instailling the game, the machine.. but.. i dont know what else to do... oh, and the video card i have is old, but when i first had hl2, it runned perfectly
